Not sure why the Alexandria thread was frozen. Guessing, people couldn't have a civilized discussion.
But, AOC is well and keeps stirring the pot (or the toilet of our political system).
So, what's new, AOC?
https://www.nytimes.com/2019/02/21/nyregion/aoc-billboard-amazon.html
"Probably the last thing that Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez needs is a billboard to get her more attention or notoriety.
But there it was, on 42nd Street just west of Times Square, a digital attack ad that blamed the freshman Democratic congresswoman for Amazon’s decision to pull out of New York, taking with it 25,000 promised jobs.
“Thanks for Nothing, AOC!” the ad read, using Ms. Ocasio-Cortez’s initials that became ubiquitous even before she officially set foot in Congress.
The ad was paid for by a Texas-based group called the Job Creators Network. In the past, tax records show that the Mercer Family Foundation has funded what appears to be a related group, the Job Creators Alliance, also based in Addison, Tex."
Is she really that powerful already? Wow!
Moose
PS. Please, keep the discussion civil. There is no need to get personal. Even it you think I'm stupid, pointing that to me won't change my brain.

The reason these threads get booted is because you really haven't said anything all.
All you're doing is repeating sound bites that have already been said and done.
Do you really know what's really going on?
NO, you only know what you are being told ......

since this appears to be the politard thread du hour and apparently i’m in a throwing down mood:
i’d like to take a moment to lay down why i am currently of the position that trump is the greatest u.s. president of the post nixon era and obama was the worst...
trump is the greatest because he says pretty much exactly who and what he is day in and day out: he is a liar, a demagogue, a con man, a believer in might makes right, a crony capitalist and a wannabe authoritarian.
when frenemies murder an american citizen in their embassy he doesn’t just turn a blind eye, he comes out with a statement that starts with “The world is a dangerous place!” and moves on to explain that “After my heavily negotiated trip to Saudi Arabia last year, the Kingdom agreed to spend and invest $450 billion in the United States. This is a record amount of money. It will create hundreds of thousands of jobs, tremendous economic development, and much additional wealth for the United States. Of the $450 billion, $110 billion will be spent on the purchase of military equipment from Boeing, Lockheed Martin, Raytheon and many other great U.S. defense contractors. If we foolishly cancel these contracts, Russia and China would be the enormous beneficiaries - and very happy to acquire all of this newfound business. It would be a wonderful gift to them directly from the United States!”
no bull shIt there, just pure unadulterated selling of future wars...
hell, might as well make sure the saudis have nuclear arms as well...
obama on the other hand? he set the stage for trump with his rhetoric of “trust the people who are pulling the levers... we are good people and we know what we are doing” and “we need to let the sins of the past administration be bygones” and so sold and then completed the institionalization of a more kinglike approach to the roles and abilities of a u.s. president than had ever existed previously...
and so now it’s just one more president’s turn to continue to push that envelope just a little further.
and so my only real beef is with the majority of the american public who seem hellbent on regaining a king rather than the semi-democratic, messy and redundant set of institutional checks and balances that was originally intended...
and that’s regardless of whether that is being sold with nobel peace prizes and two faced rhetoric...
or the red hatted, fUck everyone but those with money/power sales pitch that is currently in place.
and so to keep this on topic: go AOC!
at least she is actually DOING something [aka voting] differently, rather than just talking differently and then falling along party lines when it comes time to vote...
time will tell, if that lasts or whether the machine will be able to consume her...
so far, so good.

I’m having a hard time getting excited about her brand, and Bernie’s brand, of pie in the sky ultra progressive bullshitting. Sorry, but promising the world without having a serious discussion of trade offs (e.g., the green new deal, Medicare for all), and what can be done here and now, is a set up for a massive backfire. We urgently need drastic, workable solutions to many serious problems, especially climate change, but the gnd, which wants to simultaneously somehow, some way (and it’s always somehow, some way) tackle income inequality, is far too overreaching. I’m seeing too many Dems succumb to this brand of progressivism as an antidote to trumpism’s snake oil, but it’s less of an antidote and more like another dose.
So there!

Interesting lady. Can't quite see her through the partisan media fog.
Werner is right, you are being told what to believe by people who do not have your best interest in mind.
Anyone who gets attacked really hard must have some decent truth or they would be ignored. Some special interests are freaked out.
Was the Amazon deal good for NYC or or a screw job? I am too lazy to find out by researching the deal myself. The truth shall not be found in the news media.

Like any other fork in the road, you can't take both at the same time. So we will never know for sure.
But it's the perception that matters. The (D) Governor and Mayor here had pursued Amazon for some time, meetings presentations etc.
The (D) establishment, looks at the NY14 seat as theirs. AOC occupies it at their pleasure. She's not a pleasure now, she's a loose cannon on deck, rolling around smashing everything in her path. Pop up demonstrations at random, even one in Speaker Pelosis office the day of her swearing in. Like Sanders, she isn't a actually a (D). There are already people in the (D) establishment that want her recalled or limited to one term.
I'm not in her district but in the adjacent one.

Amazon will pay zero in taxes this year ,all the while putting your local shops and businesses out of business. Then you would like us the people of NY to subsidize that.
Yeah ,cool.
Bring on the gentrification,we can hardly House the middle income folk of the City and the rest of the state.
This kind of cronyism has to stop somewhere.
And as far as all your pie in the sky theories, tell that all to your kids and remind them only Republicans get everything they want in this country.

Amazon will pay zero in taxes this year ,all the while putting your local shops and businesses out of business.
Whether or not New York, or any city or state, should offer financial incentives to businesses is a completely separate issue from Amazon's growth at the expense of other businesses.
Before simply saying Amazon/Bad, My Local Store/Good, it's worth asking why the people who once shopped at your local store are now shopping at Amazon. No one held a gun to your neighbor's head and said "either shop at Amazon instead of Joe's Hardware or I'll shoot you." Your neighbor made that choice freely.
Whether New York (or any city) should give financial breaks to Amazon (or any other business) is a separate, and not simple, question.

Ms. Ocasio had nothing to do with the mechanics of the Amazon deal.
She was a cheerleader for the masses before it failed and will be the recipient of some flak after for it falling apart.
She may have supplied some brownshirts at the Dec.12 City Council meeting where the Amazon reps were shouted down. That was the Councils way of telling Amazon they had to get their vig. Dandy Andy and Big Bird DeBlasio had tried an end around to cut out their Lieutenants (the State Senate and City Council) legislatively, and therefor financially. Those two couldn't stand in the same room without the temperature rising 30 degrees, so you know the Retirement Fund was getting padded big time. Nothing happens in New York without ALL the racketeers getting paid. Amazon walked away because they weren't going into their pocket after making a deal with the Dons.
The 3B wasn't extraordinary really in NY bond dealings. It's one way the real racketeers (the elected ones) make the quiet money. They also garner a tidy sum through patronage, covert friends and family accounts, and insider deals on ancillary gains. (real estate and smaller trickle down businesses)
What's another 1/2 a billion,eh?
https://www.bondbuyer.com/news/nyc-council-finance-panel-approves-500m-hudson-yards-bond-issue
It all starts to look like Monopoly money.
Affordable housing is just another way for them to win hearts and minds while they line their pockets.
https://www.budget.ny.gov/agencyGuide/pacb/022019/Agenda-022019.pdf
Why would anything with Rockefellers name on it need 310 large padding from the city? Especially a foundation with some Greek shipping magnets(sic) name on it,too.

Article from Forbes.com about those who funded the billboard. Job Creators Network, Job Creators Alliance, Job Creators Network Foundation, International Franchise Association are all involved and, according to the article they have many characters and funders in common. That includes the Mercer Family who funded trump's campaign and founded Cambridge Analytica. So are these groups and its players altruistically fighting for a free market?, jobs for the middle class?, democratic values? This is why I think trump supporters are being played.
From the article:
But the group spends most of its resources identifying and recruiting entrepreneurs and executives to serve as spokespeople for free markets, and then sends them out into the media landscape, either in advertisements or, preferably, op-eds and TV appearances. "These are real job creators who are advocating on behalf of free enterprise in the media, and they bring great credibility as real job creators," says Ortiz.

Yep, Gary. The corporations wash those little brains to believe there is no money for anything but the wars and tax relieve for the wealthy. It's ridiculous that people think Bernie or Alexandria are socialists/extreme liberals. In most European countries they would be viewed as centrists.

There was a lengthy article from the AP in the local paper today that outlined the probable results of the inquiry, based on court actions and filings. Looks to me that the investigation may fall short of implicating Trump, but rather deals with all his minions and The Russkies. House Democratic committees are chomping at the bit to take over.

The best case scenarios I can think of is that he is either so forgetful he can’t keep track of what is happening, or lying is his reflexive reaction to every uncomfortable fact. But again: what’s up with all the lying and track covering? I offered some explanations above, and neither are very satisfactory.

Manafort apparently handed off polling data to Russians, Stone unofficially/officially worked with wiki, and there’s the infamous trump tower meeting between a connected Russian and Manafort and individual 1’s idiot son and son in law.

Not to mention near the end of Muellers investigations.
IMHO ,nothing will happen from Muellers report, there is way too much money involved.
The real problem for T is getting re-elected,especially since there will be states with laws that require all tax info to be disclosed before being allowed on their ballots.
This next election will be something. With DT incessantly tweeting, even before the Dprimary ,DT is effectively going to choose the right candidate to beat himself. It will be something.

you guys all know that the Democrats announcing their candidacy for the Presidency are simply staking out and trying to endear themselves to the more extreme left primary voters.
They all know that nothing they put forward has any chance of becoming US law with the Senate requiring 60 votes to overcome filibusters and that only a miracle in 2020 would put the Democrats into a Senate bare majority.
Bernie did the same thing in 2016, advocating healthcare for everyone, free college, etc
He knew he would be long dead before anything like that would become law, but it appealed to and revved up millions of primary voters to buy what he was selling back then. snake oil

Trump on brink of defeat on border emergency
Just one more Senate Republican is needed to block Trump’s emergency declaration, though even critics are reluctant to buck the president.
By BURGESS EVERETT and MARIANNE LEVINE 02/25/2019 08:25 PM EST Updated 02/25/2019 09:03 PM EST
https://www.politico.com/story/2019/02/25/trump-national-emergency-congress-1185589
President Donald Trump is on the verge of a bipartisan rejection of his emergency declaration at the border in what would be an embarrassing rebuke by a Congress opposed to his immigration agenda.
Sen. Thom Tillis (R-N.C.) on Monday night said he would join Republican Sens. Lisa Murkowski of Alaska and Susan Collins of Maine, along with 47 Senate Democrats to block Trump’s attempts to secure billions for his border wall after lawmakers effectively stiffed him. Now just one more GOP senator’s support for a resolution to block Trump's bid would send the measure to Trump’s desk and force a veto.
“Conservatives rightfully cried foul when President Barack Obama used executive action to completely bypass Congress,” Tillis said in a Washington Post op-ed on Monday night. “There is no intellectual honesty in now turning around and arguing that there’s an imaginary asterisk attached to executive overreach — that it’s acceptable for my party but not thy party.”
Just one more. Sounds like the rest of the GOP Senate are being cagey about their votes, but I would think Romney would join Collins, Murkowski and Tillis. Romney has great dislike for Trump and all that he stands for, and he's rebuilding his political identity around that opposition.
Of course, such a vote would be vetoed by Individual 1, and wouldn't likely be overridden, but it's an important line to be drawn.

It is kind of strange that both the POTUS and his Vice are out of the country at the same time
I can't recall precedent. And neither of the countries they are in is really safe IMO and I've been in both. But they have two big things brewing simultaneously. It won't be for long.
I've been watching AOC since early Summmer since she is in the district next door. Two months has changed her.
The "We're not coming from the Right or Left we're coming from the bottom" appears to be over.
Now it appears they are goading her into a fight with Ivanka which is pointless. They would look better as BFFs.

Very nice WBraun. Now we are getting somewhere. Putting some cards on the table face up. A prediction no less. March or April war with Iran. Maybe. It wouldn't surprise me. More likely some sort of limited strike led by Israeli jets. As far as a real committed war I would picture that closer to the election cycle of 2020. Nobody knows. So, she wants to keep out jobs of NY since it would crowd her neighborhood and drive up rent. Yet, she wants to allow into the country anyone who wants to come here driving up rent, reducing paychecks for local workers battling cheap, illegal workers, crowding the highways to a halt and using our government assisted housing paid by you and me. Seems a bit backward or not in my backyard mentality.
If she really wanted to address climate change, she wouldn't have added 50 other items to the deal that have nothing to do with climate change but just pork projects she supports. She is no different than any other politician. And I thought for a brief moment she might have something to say and contribute.
She seems to be too narrow minded. How about incentives for carbon reducing innovation. Put s purse of money on innovation that brings real change and let the best and brightest shine. I wouldn't put second string on this item.
And yes, I am sorry but immigration needs to stop. We have exceeded sustainable. We cannot handle anymore people and a major population reduction is needed in combination with reduced pollution of all forms. I bet the nitrate level increasing in the oceans will kill us way before carbon emissions do but nobody talks about that since is has to do with the out of control population.

Gary, don’t pretend that you don’t know we’re in agreement on that. Sadly that requires some work and doesn’t play as well as bringing in some clown to ‘testify’ and waste a few days for a good show. And remind me, when are the Dems gonna grow a set and vote agin the pork barrel?

I would agree that her positions, taken literally, are totally unrealistic and unachievable...but she is far from being a raging idiot. She is obviously a very intelligent person who is trying like hell to drag politics back to the left.
This is politics, BAd. I believe she's intelligent enough to know her pie-in-the-sky dreams ain't gonna happen, but floating the ideas (esp. while she has media momentum behind her) gets people to talk about those issues, which just might result in some movement in areas that have received no attention to date. And if she drives the GOP crazy along the way, I'm all for it.

‘This is not a day at the beach’: Pelosi tells moderate Dems to stop voting with GOP
House Democrats are divided over how to respond to Republican procedural attacks.
By HEATHER CAYGLE and JOHN BRESNAHAN 02/28/2019 12:58 PM EST
https://www.politico.com/story/2019/02/28/nancy-pelosi-house-democrats-1195854
(Excerpts)
House Democrats held an emotional debate behind closed doors Thursday over how to stop losing embarrassing procedural battles with Republicans — a clash that exposed the divide between moderates and progressives.
Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) took a hard line at the caucus meeting, saying that being a member of Congress sometimes requires taking tough votes.
“This is not a day at the beach. This is the Congress of the United States,” Pelosi said, according to two sources.
Pelosi also warned that Democrats who voted with Republicans on the “motion to recommit” could lose support from the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, although her threat may be more bluster than reality, according to Democratic lawmakers and aides.
And Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, the superstar New York freshman Democrat, suggested she would alert progressive activists when Democrats are voting with the GOP on these motions, said the sources.
In the end, Pelosi and other top Democrats didn't agree to any rules change and will continue to study the issue. The motion to recommit offers the House minority one last shot at changing legislation before it receives a final floor vote. Typically, the motion is used to try to squeeze the majority party, but it rarely succeeds.
***
Republicans have already won two motions to recommit this Congress, including a Wednesday vote that angered Ocasio-Cortez and other progressives. In contrast, Republicans stuck together and never lost a single such motion when they controlled the House from 2011 to 2019.
The latest defeat came on Wednesday, as the House debated legislation requiring background checks on all gun sales — a position overwhelmingly favored by Democrats. When Republicans moved to amend the bill to require Immigration and Customs Enforcement be told of any undocumented immigrant who tries to buy a gun, 26 Democrats voted with the GOP. The language was added to the gun bill, spoiling an important Democratic legislative achievement.
'rarely succeeds'.....except when you are talking about Democrats, who are about as steadfast as watery oatmeal when it comes to hard issues.

I should have known that someone would want to defend Ms. Ocasio or her ideals and I would feel compelled to defend my posting. I try to avoid political contentions because they never seem to have an agreeable resolution. It's like when they say to play the market with your head and not your heart, and people (being people) get scared and emotional, leading to poor judgment and bad decisions. My personal outlook is that politicians are only in it for themselves and I don't trust any of them.
willbeer, I watched the video and what I saw was orchestrated grand theater. Ms. Ocasio was given the role of executioner and she handled it well, but make no mistake the whole scene was scripted to the point it sounded like Cohen had already heard the questions.
At about 1:25 Ms. Ocasio starts grinning and gets a bit tongue tied, seemingly with glee, about driving past "Trump" golf course. She makes statements about the city building the golf course, and Trump getting all the benefit. Although her precise words aren't wrong she omitted one major factor. The city had spent the $127 million before Trump went anywhere near the place. They had exhausted all resources for money and needed to complete the work. Trump, like the unconscionable worm that he is stuck it to them. Don't forget another $70 million or so for the public park adjoining the golf course. All of it was a bad idea from the start.
https://www.crainsnewyork.com/article/20160714/BLOGS04/160719951/new-york-city-to-donald-trump-you-didn-t-build-that-public-bronx-golf-course
Ken M, I don't know why you had to throw "if you had a clue" jab but you can make a point without trying to disparage me.
What I see in the chart I posted is legacy poverty worsened, if not outright created, by social policies rife with corruption. A system that steers people to self reliance would obviously make more sense, but the elected gangsters won't break down their own racket.

Seems to me that things have been building over time and Trump is really in some legal trouble that will eventually be undeniable to all but the truly pathological. I grew up in an evangelical environment and I do think they have their limit.
The media does love to run stories about how die hard his base is, but I'm not sure it's 100% and he really doesn't have that much wiggle room. We've already seen some serious backlash and he's only begun to get exposed with the new congress.
You can't stop the tide when it turns. Enough people will realize they've made asses of themselves and will pretend they never laid down with the flea ridden dog.
But who knows I guess.
The quoted line wasn't really my point.
I've got a young kid so I have to have some hope or I'll lose my mind.
All I can do is not contribute to the vitriol and try to support whomever is bravest in the fight to solve our real problems like a truly f*#ked health care system and climate/environmental issues.

I am not Republican nor Democrat so I try to discuss the issues without anyone influencing my opinion. When you put yourself in a bucket, you become close minded and vote with the mob, Mob Rule so to speak. Everything needs to be discussed intelligently and both sides must hear the other and work out their differences. The second name calling generalizations are brought out, you are no longer solving a problem and boiled down to just name calling and zero progress.
Healthcare: I know of a rural (farmers) hospital in Ohio that is owned by the doctors and if you want to work there, you buy in ownership. The doctors had set up their own insurance program for the local population. Up until the ACA, they charged around $1,000 a year per family for full coverage including any procedure they were capable of handling and that was just about everything you would ever need. The ACA made their system illegal and shut it down. Why would a perfectly good solution be shut down by someone who I thought wanted to do good? The ACA can't even come close to touching the system it killed.
Welfare: It puts a disincentive on work and you get a population of people who don't want to work and want to work the system. It currently destroys families and the bonds needed to become successful. Just look at what it has done to the black population. Up until the major welfare programs, blacks had families, marriage and employment in much greater percentages.
Population / Immigration: We are choking the planet to death with an out of control human population. The result is pollution. Nitrates will kill the Oceans and our oxygen supply eventually. Carbon will acidify our oceans and create a blanket in the atmosphere. Get ready for red tides, dead zones, seaweed that piles up on the winward side of land masses, etc. Let people overpopulate an area with limited resources then migrate away to overpopulate somewhere else and you have a big problem. The problem needs to be address where they are migrating away from and why. Address those problems and survive or run from your problems to stave it off a few more years until the next area becomes a problem. Very concerning.
Living Wage: There are too many people for all of us to have a good job. It only works when everyone contributes. Look at the people of Alaska. They all work hard and survive. Sometimes they help one another when needed in a barter system. Its a hard life but it works. Or you can have some capitalist who will create an innovation (computers for example) and ride that wave of expansion but then when the wave ends what do you do? You have a lot of people looking for something to do or not.
Global Trade: Seems like a lot of our jobs are going away to cheap labor somewhere else. Then we buy these products to a debt on our end. This makes matters even worse. Trade only works when it is even. A barter system where you give me something and I give you something back. As soon as it is out of balance, the one side is taking advantage of the other and debts and job loss will result. Eventually, you have nothing more to give (no products being produced) and nothing more to take (don't have any money since I don't have a job).
After I look at the issues that I see as big problems, I pick the lesser of two evils. Nobody (DEM or REP) in government has come close to solving them and I don't see anyone that has any good ideas. Both sides are crazy and in it for themselves. Jump out of your party affiliation and think for yourself.
When you start calling someone names, you are no better yourself. Think about that for a moment before you breed more hate. I am working hard to not go there anymore. I saw something heartening in NC last year. Two political officials from the Left and Right agreed to sit down and listen to one another without any hate or name calling that would cloud judgement. They actually listened to each others side and agreed to try to solve a problem. They both came away understanding why each other felt the way they did and agreeded to try to solve the problem that would benefit both.

If you are talking about Latin American countries, there is a lot of corruption. many of these governments were installed by the us.
It's basically the fault of the american consumer.

Destroys families?
The most devastating by-product of the mushrooming welfare state is the corrosive effect it has on American family life, particularly in the black community. As provisions in welfare laws offered ever-increasing economic incentives for shunning marriage and avoiding the formation of two-parent families, illegitimacy rates rose dramatically.
If you are talking about Latin American countries, there is a lot of corruption. many of these governments were installed by the us.
No. I am talking about too much procreation by humans to the point you use up all the resources in that area and must flee elsewhere. Some areas/individuals tend to procreate a lot more than others. The surging global population is what is killing the planet and causing climate change. It needs to slow down and reverse direction or death to everyone. Immigration is just a symptom of the problem.
It's basically the fault of the american consumer.
I believe Bill Clinton signed NAFTA with Republican support and our government has allowed the unbalanced/one sided trade so the minority can profit at the expense of the little people (both parties). The American consumer will buy whatever is cheapest even if it hurts their neighbor or themselves.

Reilly, the whole concept embodied in the phrase "working poor" sickens me. Why someone who works 40 hours per week need government assistance for food, shelter and medicine is unbelievable.
It's capitalism that causes the welfare state.

tradmike- Strong family bond with two parents is essential to raising a productive and mentally stable person. I don't know any single parents that do a great job by themselves. You can choose to get sperm and raise the child yourself but it's not going to be the best scanario Hi Mike, My mom left an alcoholic husband and was forced to welfare to feed me and my brother and sister. It's guys like you and your misrepresentations who made me ashamed as a kid when my mom paid for groceries with food stamps- thanks for that! I suppose if she had gone to the local Methodist Church someone like you would have suggested for the kids sake, it's her duty to stay in a dysfunctional and damaging marriage. Fortunately it was the era of Women's Lib and she broke free. She used those food stamps to bridge the gap and went to Real Estate school and became a very successful agent. Meanwhile, my brother served in the Military as a Cobra pilot and is now an airline pilot. I became successful as well, due in part to the bravery of my mom going out on her own with the help of welfare. Ironically I provide dozens of jobs to people who think just like you. I hope you realize how damaging and hurtful your stereotypes are.

My intent is not to stereotype people on welfare nor single parents. Welfare is an essential safety net for exactly someone like yourself. You mom married someone of weak character. It's unfortunate that people sucomb to drugs. They will destroy you in excess. Nobody is perfect and we need to help those people the best we can to rise above. I'm getting at the generational welfare and someone who never gets off of welfare and the fact they can make more money being single and having more kids to make more money. Once you start working the systems the system no longer works. It becomes a bigger monster than what it was there to remedy. There are too many able bodied people not willing to work because welfare will provide a better living. I see it every day. People on welfare refuse to work too many hours because their benefits will end. There are not enough good paying jobs to support the excessive population. You can only get so much out of an area and when the population density exceeds the resources you end up with someone losing. Sorry to offend, I am just passionate about providing the best for everyone and trying to help find a solution so we don't need to pay the piper (bear the consequences of an action or activity that one has enjoyed).

House Democrats open sweeping corruption probe into Trump’s world
The House Judiciary panel is requesting documents from more than 80 people or entities in Trump’s orbit, including his adult sons.
By ANDREW DESIDERIO and DARREN SAMUELSOHN 03/04/2019 11:31 AM EST Updated 03/04/2019 04:33 PM EST
https://www.politico.com/story/2019/03/04/nadler-trump-investigation-1201488
A key House committee with the power to impeach President Donald Trump kicked off a sweeping new investigation on Monday with document demands from the White House, Trump’s namesake company, charity, transition team, inauguration and 2016 campaign, as well as several longtime associates and the president’s two adult sons.
Judiciary Committee Chairman Jerry Nadler, a New York Democrat, opened his much-anticipated probe with letters to 81 individuals, companies and government entities, seeking a wide range of materials that go to the heart of allegations against the president — including abuses of power, corruption, and obstruction of justice.
Will this have teeth? Or is it just a gesture to get the AOC clan to cool their jets?

When all the truth comes out the Republicans will have poisoned their brand for a generation. Hopefully the never Trumpers like Romney (we will see how he votes on the ridiculous emergency declaration) can salvage what’s left and pull them from the right wingers and restore some honesty and reasonableness. We compare our status not to the poorest in the world, but to our own poverty class. What's more, many look at the wealthy class with envy. That's create a lot of unhappy people, right or wrong.
Moose
So, average America is just marginally better than the poverty class?
That's BS. IMHO
Envy of the wealthy class? When in history has that not been the case? I guess one big difference: today a significant portion of the population believes they are entitled to that wealth. Let's call them entitled brat class.

Indeed.
Consider the landscape of the post-Trump Presidency for the (D) President elect on one item just for openers.
The "resistance" has blocked a large number of appointees and Trump has fired yet more officials he doesn't like. So there are a large number of vacant spots for cabinet secretaries, ambassadors etc. Trump has learned to roll with it and has decided he doesn't need them.
So the new President elect is going to have to reverse the momentum or the Federal government will simply need to learn to live without these people. This, in an energized (R) environment that wants revenge and will do to the (D)s as was done to them. We will be paying for all of it.

But, I think we can look at the dem party and identify the AOC/sanders (even though he isn’t a dem) wing and a large number of Dems who are closer to what a mushy middle/middle left might look like, who differ from the far left in style and substance, reflecting their swingy/righty constituents. Yes. In fact my Congressperson - Jerry Nadler - ran buses to nearby districts every weekend full of volunteers to flip adjacent and nearby districts. Personally, I don't believe I would react positively to people coming from the big city to tell me how to vote, but that's me. The fact is, districts got flipped all around here.
AOC, is in a safe (D) district. The party feels they own the seat not her. If she jeopardizes their chances in 2020 I think she gets tossed.

When was the last time Republicans were interested in working with Dems on anything major?
No, we got a complete crap tax bill not because of some “resistance,” but because the Republican Party has not shown any inclination to work with Dems and are ruled by ideologues. And since they were in the majority, they could muscle through whatever crap bill they wanted to. What amazes me is that they didn’t do even more damage—it wasn’t for lack of trying.

I will say this though:

Trump put up several proposals.
Last winter, path to citizenship for 1.8 million dreamers was on the table.
More recently, he made several offers to cut a deal.
In every case, the Dems essentially said F*CK YOU!
Let's not pretend the Dems are acting in good faith.

The GOP's no-compromise pledge
“We're going to do everything — and I mean everything we can do — to kill it, stop it, slow it down, whatever we can.”
Is it good for the country? Yes, but it would be an Obama success and we can’t have that so the country will just have to suffer. So no jobs bills. While we’re blocking jobs bills we’ll blame Obama for a slow recovery. Brilliant!
The gall exhibited by Republicans was truly staggering. After President Obama was able to get through a stimulus bill with absolutely no GOP support, Republicans would get their pictures taken with stimulus checks, taking credit for the very thing they voted against.

Centrists fear socialist tag will cost Democrats the House in 2020
The most endangered House Democrats in next year's election are wary of their more outspoken, liberal colleagues.
By LAURA BARRÓN-LÓPEZ 03/15/2019 05:00 AM EDT Updated 03/15/2019 08:36 AM EDT
https://www.politico.com/story/2019/03/15/house-democrats-moderates-2020-aoc-1220643
The moderate Democrats who delivered the House majority want you to know they’re not Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Rashida Tlaib or Ilhan Omar.
They haven’t all blindly signed on to the "Green New Deal." They haven't been widely accused of anti-Semitism. They aren't hungry to impeach President Donald Trump.
They are the ones on the front lines of the battlefield, defending Democrats’ House majority. And many of the endangered Democrats already see their outspoken colleagues as a potential obstacle standing between them and reelection in 2020.
“As we run up to this presidential [election], we need to show that Democrats, as a whole, are not socialists," said Rep. Katie Hill, who last November flipped a Southern California district that Republicans held for the previous quarter-century. "We’re not pushing for impeachment without serious cause and serious evidence."
With the progressive squad of Ocasio-Cortez, Tlaib, Omar and Rep. Ayanna Pressley (D-Mass.) capturing most of the headlines, the vulnerable Democrats are left to respond in stronger and stronger terms. The four liberals have forced majority-makers like Hill to distinguish themselves with voters and donors early and often.
“You have these four members frankly that were elected from seats that are going to be Democratic no matter what and represent a very small fraction of the party as a whole,” said Hill. “And it’s like they’re the only ones that exist.”

Trump intensifies attacks on McCain: 'I never was a fan of John McCain, and I never will be'
By KATIE GALIOTO 03/19/2019 12:50 PM EDT Updated 03/19/2019 01:35 PM EDT
https://www.politico.com/story/2019/03/19/trump-john-mccain-fan-1227632
President Donald Trump on Tuesday ratcheted up his attacks on the late Sen. John McCain, again lashing out at the former lawmaker for his dramatic thumbs-down vote to repeal Obamacare in 2017.
“I never was a fan of John McCain, and I never will be,” Trump told reporters while sitting next to Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro in the Oval Office.
Trump accused McCain, who died of cancer in August, of changing his vote on the health care law at the last minute without notice. More than a year and a half after McCain cast his legendary vote on the Senate floor, Trump said the move made him "very unhappy."
“Our country would have saved a trillion dollars, and we would have had great health care,” Trump said Tuesday.
The president claimed McCain had campaigned on the promise of replacing Obamacare and still chose to thwart Republican efforts in 2017, a move Trump on Tuesday called "disgraceful."
Trump’s comments come days after the president railed against McCain on Twitter, claiming that he passed along to former FBI Director James Comey an explosive and largely unverified dossier compiled by an ex-British intelligence officer alleging links between Trump and Russia.
Trump also mocked McCain on Twitter for being "last in his class" at the U.S. Naval Academy. The former Navy pilot graduated from the military academy in 1958, finishing near, but not at, the bottom of his class.
Though the Obamacare vote was the peak of the pair's feud, clashes between Trump and McCain date back to the beginning of the former's presidential campaign, fed by a variety of personal and policy disagreements. Trump stirred intense controversy on the campaign trail in July 2015 when he knocked McCain by saying, “He’s not a war hero,” and that, "I like people who weren’t captured.”
McCain spent roughly five-and-half years in a notorious North Vietnamese prison, where he was repeatedly tortured.
Trump was not invited to McCain's funeral last year, and the American flag atop the White House was initially raised to full-staff in the wake of the senator's death — and was returned to half-staff in McCain's honor only after the move garnered criticism from both sides of the aisle.
Somebody better install a urinal on Trump's grave...because there will be a looooong line waiting to piss on it. I'll be fighting to be the first.

*The real reason the Trump administration is constantly losing in court
Federal judges have ruled against the Trump administration at least 63 times over the past two years, an extraordinary record of legal defeat that has stymied large parts of the president’s agenda on the environment, immigration and other matters.
In case after case, judges have rebuked Trump officials for failing to follow the most basic rules of governance for shifting policy, including providing legitimate explanations supported by facts and, where required, public input.

But when you are being gaslighted as a nation, and told things you know are not true over and over by a truly bad person, it's comforting to have someone come forward and confirm that what you are seeing really is wrong.

I agree absolutely.
But, I particularly like it when the commenter is a long, long established conservative. Someone who has a well-established history of plain and intelligent talk (I've been following Peters since he wrote for Armed Forces Journal International starting in the early '90s - sometimes I agreed and sometimes not, but his language and his arguments are always clear and often innovative).
I've come to like Max Boot for similar reasons.
I can listen to and talk with real conservatives, those that have stayed true to their values instead of bowing before a "mid-town Mussolini."

Kellyanne Conway defends Trump after he attacks her husband
'You think he should just take that sitting down?' she says about Trump after George Conway questioned his mental fitness.
By DANIEL LIPPMAN 03/20/2019 12:59 PM EDT
Kellyanne Conway on Wednesday defended President Donald Trump’s attacks on her husband George Conway saying he’s “a counterpuncher” and asserting that the president is free to respond when he’s accused of having a mental illness.
“He left it alone for months out of respect for me,” Conway, a senior Trump aide, told POLITICO in a brief telephone interview. “But you think he shouldn’t respond when somebody, a non-medical professional accuses him of having a mental disorder? You think he should just take that sitting down?”
“Don't play psychiatrist any more than George should be,” she added. “You're not a psychiatrist and he's not, respectfully.”
Conway’s defense of her boss comes as Trump has spent the past two days ripping her husband on Twitter. While the president has generally restrained from attacking George Conway, a longtime conservative lawyer who has repeatedly mocked Trump on Twitter, he broke from that habit on Monday after George Conway claimed he suffered from mental illness.
“George Conway, often referred to as Mr. Kellyanne Conway by those who know him, is VERY jealous of his wife’s success & angry that I, with her help, didn’t give him the job he so desperately wanted,” Trump tweeted Wednesday morning. “I barely know him but just take a look, a stone cold LOSER & husband from hell!”
Trump later on Wednesday took the Twitter feud offline, telling reporters that George Conway is a “whack job” and doing a “tremendous disservice to a wonderful wife.”
Full moon whackery, indeed.

A shocking Pew Research Center poll last year found that far more people around the world view the United States as a threat than China or Russia.
That perception is a bigger blow to American primacy than any new weapons system that China or Russia could develop.
----Max Boot
I've also grown to like Max. I had the chance to meet him last year, and participate in a UCLA seminar which he gave on his latest book (fascinating).
He spoke widely, though, and his contempt for Trump could not have been clearer.

For some people, it would probably be better if they simply ignored all of his tweets
Wouldn’t that be nice?
That would be the case if he was still just a real estate huckster, or a reality tv guy.
The problem is that the president’s words matter greatly, and this tweet (and others) are indicative of a very troubling mental state. So, we have to pay close attention to all of it.

Just back from a trip to town & a Fox News fix.
The Fox talking heads & one Democrat were discussing Trump's apparent obsession with, & recent bashing of John McCain.
One of the talking heads said that it was discourteous, but was instantly savaged by another who argued loudly:
As long as liberals say bad things about Ronald Reagan, it's more than fair to criticize John McCain!
The talking heads clucked approval, forgetting that John McCain used to be a Republican icon.

The McCain business has the feel of a diversion. They throw red meat out there to distract people. But here's a shocker. Deep down people don't really care for war heroes. I dunno why. Even when I was in the Army. The guy that stepped on a mine was mocked as a klutz.
Probably healthier to let all of it go and watch animal videos. First day of Spring has brought out lots of good ones.
The internet is having fun with this. Statements made with something between each word are not refutable.

Trump is neither a true Conservative nor a true Republican. He’s a shape-shifting huckster who will put on whatever guise he thinks will get him what he wants.
Republican dislike of McCain merely conveniently dovetails with Trump’s selfish interest. Trump hates McCain because he was much more genuine than he is, and McCain called him out for who he is: a slimy huckster.

Which reminds me of this. Some 20% of Bernie voters in the Primary voted for Trump. The MsM narrative was that they didn't like Hillary. But maybe they wanted someone angry and energetic.

"I think AOC et al. may actually help Trump get re-elected."
How Trump is on track for a 2020 landslide
Economic models point to a Trump blowout in 2020. But a faltering economy or giant scandal could change everything.
By BEN WHITE and STEVEN SHEPARD 03/21/2019 05:02 AM EDT
https://www.politico.com/story/2019/03/21/trump-economy-election-1230495
President Donald Trump has a low approval rating. He is engaging in bitter Twitter wars and facing metastasizing investigations.
But if the election were held today, he’d likely ride to a second term in a huge landslide, according to multiple economic models with strong track records of picking presidential winners and losses.
Credit a strong U.S. economy featuring low unemployment, rising wages and low gas prices — along with the historic advantage held by incumbent presidents.
While Trump appears to be in a much stronger position than his approval rating and conventional Beltway wisdom might suggest, he also could wind up in trouble if the economy slows markedly between now and next fall, as many analysts predict it will.
And other legal bombshells could explode the current scenario. Trump’s party managed to lose the House in 2018 despite a strong economy. So the models could wind up wrong this time around.

Moose, Trump's dislike of McCain is much deeper than the issue of McCain's support of wars. Trump doesn't have a moral locus from which to be offended by such things, like you or I do.
Trump doesn't like McCain for very deep, base-level psychologic reasons: McCain stood up as a man in a way that Trump never could do, and that threatens Trump's very identity. That kind of threat tends to result in irrational lashing out from narcissistic personality disorders.
This said, I'm with you in respect to disagreeing with McCain's hawkish tendencies.

@Apogee: Is there a tipping point for dems? Trump won quite a few who traditionally voted dem. I don't see anything Trump has done that's different from what he's always been. Too many commentators here forget that come election day, it's a binary choice--warts and all. If one candidate seems to support more of your issues/points of view than the other, that one wins. The continual demonizing of Trump voters serves to--understandably--redouble their commitment. I see the broad brush attacks--Trump voters are all racist morons!--and I think: Wow, folks who say this really want to see him re-elected. I know some Trump voters, and they aren't racists, and they're not stupid. On election day they had two choices, and one was more aligned--even if poorly--with their beliefs than the other. Of course, there are plenty of hard lefts and rights who vote for whomever gets propped up there, and there's no swaying them. It's the mushy middle that needs attention. You want a dem in office? Start respecting the concerns of half the population and avoid coming out as a socialist--one of the least favorite qualities. From a recent NBC News/WSJ poll:
An NBC News/Wall Street Journal public opinion survey tested 11 different presidential characteristics among registered voters nationwide. The most widely accepted – being an African American (87 percent said they were "enthusiastic" or "comfortable" with that characteristic), a white man (86 percent), a woman (84 percent), and gay or lesbian (68 percent).
The least popular characteristics? Being over the age of 75 (37 percent) and a socialist (25 percent).
Sanders – at 77 – is the oldest declared or potential presidential candidate in the 2020 field. And he’s been repeatedly labeled by Republicans as a socialist.
I think Bernie is way more socialisty than he would like the American public to believe. He's been a big fan of Hugo Chavez, for example. Anyway, this is going to be a VERY interesting election. The outrageous size of the dem field will require some prodigious in-fighting and back stabbing to cut it down to size. Should be juicy.

I see the value of having strong leftward views and voices, as long as everyone operates from the same bottom reality of the 'binary system' that we are saddled with. When it comes down to the vote, staying home and pouting because your extreme left candidate isn't on the ballot is being simply childish.
Edit
And a candidate that carries a significant amount of the far left planks in their platform is a recipe for complete failure.

Sure, there have been exceptions, but as a general matter of fact, a generally positive economy has favored the incumbent.
This incumbent, however, is so far out of the box, almost anything could still happen. His propensity for yakking could sink him, as could any number of scandals or investigations...an opponent with reasonable likability could take him down, even with a good economy. That would be sweet justice.

Probably not this. The population there is Druze and Alawites. Nonetheless, very strange. It occurs on the same day the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) finishes ISIS and is free to do something else. I don't get it. That said, overthinking something isn't what this administration does.

Meanwhile my states Jr senator is having a rally tomorrow not far away. I'm not a fan but it would be interesting to see who shows up. My Mayor sure looks like he is running as well. I don't think doing it in front of one of Trumps Hotels is a good idea but we shall see.
https://www.westsiderag.com/2019/03/23/senator-gillibrand-to-kick-off-presidential-campaign-on-uws-on-sunday-parking-restrictions-in-effect
Senator Kirsten Gillibrand will give a speech in front of Trump International Hotel on Sunday afternoon to kick off her campaign for president.
“Gates open” at 11 a.m., and the rally starts at noon, according to NYPD. According to C-Span, the event will be live at 12:30 p.m.
The hotel is on Central Park West between 60th and 61st Streets.
Gillibrand, a Democrat from New York, just released a video called Brave Wins explaining why she’s running.

It's now 22 hours since DT has posted a tweet. I'm not sure, but this may be the longest he has gone without a tweet since becoming 45*.
That seems a little strange, considering that he would have been exonerated, if we were to believe he was being wrongly, illegally, witch-huntedly, harassed with this whole Collusion thing.
Did anyone read the letter from Barr to Congress, confirming receipt of the report? There is a sentence, well two actually in it, that seem, to me, to be the Tell:
In addition to this notification, the Special Counsel regulations require that I provide you with “a description and explanation of instances (if any) in which the Attorney General” or acting Attorney General “concluded that a proposed action by a Special Counsel was so inappropriate or unwarranted under established Departmental practices that it should not be pursued.” 28 C.F.R. 600.9(a)(3). There were no such instances during the Special Counsel’s investigation.
Also, remember that Mueller isn't there to prosecute, just to do the investigation. Which is now concluded. And that the investigation legally covered other things discovered while investigating the Russian Interference. Since I am pretty firmly believing he has done all that and more, I say, with at least a little glee, Let the prosecutions begin.....

I am convinced Donald will not be running for another term as President.
If the election were held right now he would lose in a landslide to virtually any Democrat, so much under water is his polling.
And it is only going to get worse as more and more indictments, prison sentences,
and Mueller's report comes out.
Needing 67 votes in the Senate to impeach, that is not going to happen.

Mueller finds no evidence of Trump-Russia collusion
The attorney general said Mueller did not take a clear position on whether the president obstructed justice.
By DARREN SAMUELSOHN and JOSH GERSTEIN 03/24/2019 03:12 PM EDT
https://www.politico.com/story/2019/03/24/breaking-news-barr-to-release-summary-of-mueller-report-1233771
UPDATE
Robert Mueller’s long-awaited Russia report does not take a clear position on whether President Donald Trump obstructed justice, according to a four-page summary of the special counsel’s findings released Sunday by Attorney General William Barr.
“For each of the relevant actions investigated, the report sets out evidence on both sides of the question and leave unresolved what the special counsel views as ‘difficult issues’ of law and fact concerning whether the President’s actions and intent could be viewed as obstruction,” Barr wrote.
“The Special Counsel states that ‘while this report does not conclude that the President committed a crime, it also does not exonerate him,’” Barr added. However, in an apparent departure from the four corners of Mueller’s report, Barr says he and Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein “have concluded that the evidence developed during the Special Counsel’s investigation is not sufficient to establish that the President committed an obstruction-of-justice offense.”
Also, Robert Mueller said he did not find adequate evidence to show that officials with Donald Trump's presidential campaign aided Russian attempts to interfere with the 2016 election.
"The investigation did not establish that members of the Trump Campaign conspired or coordinated with the Russian government in its election interference activities," Mueller wrote in the findings released Sunday by the Justice Department.

Biden/Harris is about their best shot. Harris has a lot of .gov experience at big blue state level. The last thing the (D)s need to do is throw even more people who fit a profile but have zero experience and soon become a laughingstock.
Better to groom them in cabinet jobs for starters.
Meanwhile what do the (D)s do now? More and more they are looking authoritarian trying to take over the .gov by any means then dictate policy. Better they accept Trump will be there less than two years and work on the best ticket. Some policy compromises would help them as well. They should accept they are not a lock.
Otherwise.. The good news is we have moved to the second row.

Provable crimes of conspiracy and obstruction aside, it’s all plain as the new day as far as an inappropriate relationship with Russia regarding the potential Trump tower and the daily barrage of obstruction live on TV.
Now Trump has no distractions in trying to defend his shady and downright illegal business practices, campaign finance shenanigans, and charitable organization abuses.
Also glad Manafort, Stone, etc are being exposed and prosecuted.

I'd say this is pretty damn far from being 'over'.
The question of collusion is going to continue to be pushed- this is Barr's summary of Mueller's report, and there's no way Democrats are going to leave it at that.
The question of obstruction is still very much alive- Mueller didn't point out clear evidence, but he didn't exonerate Trump, either. More fodder for Dems to pursue.
And the Southern District of NY is going to have a LOT to do with the findings of this report- Trump's shady financial dealings are going to get a big fat spotlight put on them.
Mueller has done exactly what our justice system expects to be done- investigate issues that have ample reason to investigate, do it thoroughly and responsibly.
It's understandable to be tired of this whole process- it's been going on a long time- and those with political interests in this president, or ideologic alignment with his Party, would much prefer to see it over for good. But this is only the end of a major stage in the process....much more is to come.

After the 2016 election, I thought the (D)s should go for new leadership. But I am glad Nancy is there now. It will take an experienced leader to see the trap yawning before them. Where they waste another 2 years playing rope-a-dope with this President.
Then they go for election next year trying to run on a record of failure to get rid of Trump. At that point, even some people who detest Trump, will vote with their wallets. Hold their noses and vote a straight (R) ticket.

Trump will survive the Mueller investigation
And the haters will continue with their constant, vocal, frothing whinery.
Five for five.
Not too bad.
Those were all pretty much no-brainers.
Time for a less sure thing, if Trump is on the ticket in 2020, he will win re-election. It won't be due to the quality of his first term leadership or his overall popularity. It'll be due to American's being fed up with the Dem's "get Trump at all costs" mentality and their shift to the far left (read: La La Land).

Mueller Just Gave Democrats a Gift. Will They Take It?
Scandal and impeachment were always political losers. Now the 2020 election can be about which party will improve the lives of more Americans.
By BILL SCHER March 25, 2019
https://www.politico.com/magazine/story/2019/03/25/mueller-report-democrats-226168
(Excerpts)
Trump is not going to be impeached. Trump is not going be hounded out of office early. Trump is not going to be branded a criminal in the court of the public opinion. The hope of short-circuiting the Trump presidency through legal channels is no more.
For the special counsel to have avoided any collusion-related charges is a clear victory for Trump. The coming victory laps are sure to be insufferable for Democrats to watch, but Democrats need to get over it.
By not alleging any illegal collusion, Mueller has liberated Democrats from chasing the impeachment unicorn, which was always a political loser and a substantive dead end. If the Democratic House ever impeached, the Republican Senate was never going to convict, and may not have even held a trial. Impeachment had appeal only to the Democratic base, while doing little for the voters in swing areas who just delivered Democrats the House majority and hold the key to retaking the White House.
His job approval has been underwater from the beginning of his presidency, and has remained so despite the growing economy. Democrats successfully ran against Trump’s health care and tax policies in 2018. Trump’s fondness for dictators, and white nationalists’ fondness for Trump, continues to disturb. Trump’s trade war is unnerving farm states. Democrats have plenty to say about Trump’s white whale of a border wall and his horrific policy of refugee child separation, and they are eager to challenge Trump on climate change. This is a target-rich issues environment for Democrats. They don’t need an indictment or an impeachment to make their case against Trump.
Today, Trump barely has a legislative agenda. In turn, Democrats have the opportunity to further the narrative that Trump is a threat to sustainable economic growth, middle-class prosperity and global stability. It won’t matter if Mueller had evidence of obstruction of justice. It won’t matter if the Southern District of New York finds campaign finance violations. It won’t matter if Trump’s inauguration committee took illegal payments or if the Trump Organization lied about its assets to Deutsche Bank.
Many voters won’t care that Trump is a grifter if they believe Trump has made their own lives better. The Democratic challenge is to show that he hasn’t. Thanks to Mueller, Democrats are a better position to do just that. Time to let it go.

The funniest thing is Trump has to be the squeakiest clean Billionaire on the planet... I mean how many rich people over 70 could stand up to that kind of scrutiny for 2+ years of apparently no-holds-barred inquiry?
Imagine also if you were under that kind of spotlight and everyone you ever knew or did business with apparently is also free game for whatever transgressions they might have made in their lifetimes? Imagine if they could be grilled for things completely unrelated to the original "Russia is bad" premise.

Reminder, the Mueller investigation was charged only with determining if there was a link, collusion, between the Russians and the Trump campaign team.
The summary we have says no collusion but also says possible obstruction of justice
There are two more major players, the investigative committees in congress, and the Southern District of New York who will determine and make public any civil and criminal findings as regards the President's behavior both before and after becoming President.
We already know that the President has committed two confirmed Felonies, both in violation of Campaign Ethics and Finance laws by paying off two women he had sex with in order to keep them quiet to they did not talk and thereby negatively influence voters.
Stay tuned, very probably more Felony findings to come....

You have to remember that we are taking the word of a guy, that was placed because the guy before him ,who was appointed by the same guy, recused himself of being able to say what the current guy could say.
All because the appointer had fired the guy that wanted to investigate him, then fired his replacement, all to make room for the guy that would defend him.
Your right, no problem there.

Reminder, the Mueller investigation was charged only with determining if there was a link, collusion, between the Russians and the Trump campaign team.
So all those Americans prosecuted by Mueller's team were charged with collusion/conspiracy crimes?

I'm glad Pelosi is leading the House right now for the Dems.
This is going to be a tough needle to thread, trying to find the right balance between due diligence in getting Mueller's report out there, deciding if/how far to pursue whatever might be found there, satisfying the ever-leftward-moving base, and setting the table to be sure this d#@&%ebag president doesn't see a second term.

Judiciary Committee seeks obstruction of justice probe records from DOJ
By KYLE CHENEY 03/26/2019 01:34 PM EDT Updated 03/26/2019 03:07 PM EDT
https://www.politico.com/story/2019/03/26/mueller-obstruction-of-justice-legislation-1237498
The House Judiciary Committee on Tuesday unanimously approved legislation demanding more details from the Justice Department on the obstruction of justice investigation into President Donald Trump.
The straightforward result belied an odd partisan dance that led a Democratic panel to embrace a GOP proposal on one of the most divisive issues in Washington.
Rep. Doug Collins (R-Ga.), the top Republican on the Judiciary Committee, introduced the measure last week — before it was known that special counsel Robert Mueller would be finalizing his investigation of Russian interference in the 2016 election. Though Mueller’s findings remain secret, Attorney General William Barr indicated Mueller opted not to charge Trump or any associates with conspiring with Russians.
Mueller also explicitly chose to “not exonerate” Trump from an obstruction of justice inquiry, Barr revealed, and Democrats have clamored for Barr to provide the full report to Congress to understand how Mueller arrived at that decision.

I kinda doubt they planned it that way...the DOJ has no doubt been considering supporting that lower court's ruling for a while now. But the timing is perfect(ly awful), depending on which side of the aisle you are on.
This changes the channel quite nicely for the Dems...it will help get everybody out of the dumps, and back on fire about something the whole Party can get behind.

It does indeed. Is it a trap? Anything that allows them to ignore the lessons of 2016 promotes them to make those mistakes again.
The real losers here, are CNN and MSNBC that ran with it 24/7. Be interesting to see how they play it. CNNs marquee /pol shows don't even get 1/4 of the viewership the Fox shows get in the same time slot I saw yesterday.
In any event, Trump doesn't need to wallow in it right now, it will all get revisited in a series of hard hitting campaign ads. You will think the US is under siege.

I admit to feeling, since Barr's statement was posted, similar to how I felt on election night in 2016.
That Trump went Radio Silent when the Mueller report was confirmed delivered tells me he wasn't so sure about his vindication. Now, seeing reports of the gloating is like reliving election day-after.
It makes me ill, wondering if when these cases pending in other jurisdictions come out, the same thing will happen.
Meanwhile Trumpublicans are gleeful that DT is *exonerated,* and could care less that he got elected through the machinations which he has.
God I hope there will be trials that wipe the current smirks off the faces of do many. If not, I don't think this country has much is a chance at avoiding a fall into the kind of corruption we despise about so many other countries.

New book claims former first lady Barbara Bush kept a Trump countdown clock at her bedside
By CAITLIN OPRYSKO 03/27/2019 10:53 AM EDT
https://www.politico.com/story/2019/03/27/barbara-bush-trump-countdown-clock-1238787
The late first lady Barbara Bush disliked President Donald Trump so much that she kept a jokingly gifted clock counting down to the end of his presidency by her bedside until the day she died, according to an excerpt of a new book about her.
According to Susan Page, USA Today Washington Bureau Chief and author of “Matriarch: Barbara Bush and the Making of an American Dynasty,” the former first lady received the red, white and blue digital clock after the 2016 election as a joke from a friend in Kennebunkport, Maine, who knew how deep her disdain for the president ran.
“She parked it on the side table in her bedroom, next to the chair she would sit in to needlepoint or watch television,” Page wrote of the clock, which counted down to the second the end of Trump’s term. “She liked the countdown clock so much that when the Bushes returned to Houston that October, she brought it with her. It sat on her bedside table, where she could see it every day.”
The new book set to be published next week was compiled from interviews with the Bush matriarch before her death last year as well as decades of diary entries from the former first lady. It shows that Bush’s dislike of Trump goes as far back as the 1990s, when she wrote of the then-real estate mogul that “Trump now means Greed, selfishness and ugly.”

Steve Bannon predicts Harris-Beto ticket has 'best shot' at beating Trump
By REBECCA MORIN 03/29/2019 09:15 AM EDT
https://www.politico.com/story/2019/03/29/steve-bannon-harris-orourke-2020-1243426
Former White House chief strategist Steve Bannon on Friday claimed a Kamala Harris-Beto O'Rourke ticket has the "best shot" against President Donald Trump in the 2020 elections, but he also contended that the president will likely win reelection.
"I think the best they're going to have, and I don't think these people will defeat him, I think a combination ... of [Kamala] Harris for president and Beto O'Rourke for VP is a way to mobilize their base and give it the best shot," Bannon said during an interview on CNBC's "Squawk Box."
The guy just might have a point...Dems tend to lose when they offer up the same ol' same ol', and win when they rally around a new, fresh, diverse face. Harris has a reasonable amount of gov't experience and is smart, diverse....Beto is quite captivating, and can get the base excited....that's not a bad combo.

ATLANTA, GA—While Empire actor Jussie Smollett has been having a tough week so far, there appears to be a silver lining: cable news channel CNN has offered Smollett a job as an investigative reporter and on-air anchor after witnessing his skills at fabricating a story entirely out of thin air.
CNN producers were reportedly impressed throughout the ongoing saga of Smollett's apparent hoax attack on himself. They realized early on the facts didn't add up but were fascinated with how well the actor kept the narrative going. An HR rep quickly reached out to Smollett to see if he'd be interested in taking on a position at the news organization after news broke that the entire thing was probably fabricated.

With "Mayor Pete" rising rapidly in the polls, you would assume the Left is cheering him on. Instead, he gets crab bucketed.
https://slate.com/news-and-politics/2019/03/pete-buttigieg-gay-diversity-white-male-candidate.html
Buttigieg’s surprisingly strong performance in this poll and a recent flurry of flattering pieces on his Episcopalian faith, political philosophy, and potential electability have combined to create a real sense of momentum for the man now known as “Mayor Pete.” But with momentum comes backlash, currently in the form of frustration that the well-qualified female and black candidates in the race are getting shoved aside for another white guy. When, for instance, economist Alan Cole tweeted on Sunday that Buttigieg “seems head-and-shoulders smarter than the other candidates running,” a characteristic response, this one from writer Jill Filipovic, was: “Warren, who taught at Harvard, was one of the most well-regarded law professors in the country and one of the most intelligent people to serve in the senate, but we don’t politically reward, let alone even identify, that kind of fierce intelligence in women.”

AG: Mueller report to be released 'by mid-April, if not sooner'
William Barr writes he has 'no plans' to give Trump or the White House a chance to review the report before its release.
By KYLE CHENEY 03/29/2019 03:30 PM EDT Updated 03/29/2019 04:40 PM EDT
https://www.politico.com/story/2019/03/29/attorney-general-doj-to-release-mueller-report-by-mid-april-if-not-sooner-1243851
Attorney General William Barr said Friday he's prepared to share a redacted copy of special counsel Robert Mueller's report with lawmakers and the public by mid-April "if not sooner" and indicated he's prepared to testify to Congress by early May.
In a letter to Congress, Barr wrote he has "no plans" to give President Donald Trump or the White House a chance to review the report before its release, ensuring that there could not be broad claims of executive privilege. Barr cited Trump's public statements deferring to him.
Personally, I'm kinda surprised he's announced it would come out that soon at all. I was much more expecting some kind of stonewalling and Congressional action to get it out there. Of course, whatever comes out in the next coupla weeks will likely be highly redacted.

Time passed and pictures started to surface of Vice-President Biden getting uncomfortably close with women and young girls. Biden nuzzling the neck of the Defense secretary’s wife; Biden kissing a senator’s wife on the lips; Biden whispering in women’s ears; Biden snuggling female constituents. I saw obvious discomfort in the women’s faces, and Biden, I’m sure, never thought twice about how it made them feel. I knew I couldn’t say anything publicly about what those pictures surfaced for me; my anger and my resentment grew.

Norton, do you see the flaw in the comments I quoted? The comments do make judgement based on race. If they made sense, then what will happen if the neo-cons choose a candidate like Carson, or Marco Rubio, Sara Palin, etc?
I understand if your saying what you predict will happen if a certain color person is running. But I'm taking issue with deciding who will run based on their color. "American society is racist.." is a broad generalization. So that comment in itself is an obvious problem. Racism exists, yes, no argument there. Let's not support it.
I'm supporting choosing the next candidate(s) by examining their policy positions, voting records, etc. rather than their race. Concentrating on race is a form of racism. Won't that simply lead to more racism, especially if anyone defends the practice.

Semper, those comments are certainly an over-simplification, but there is a reason why it fits. Politics on both sides is too often represented by establishment politicians that wind up getting the nod front their Party largely because they’ve done their time, and they are ‘due’. And it is hard to deny the pattern they represent of being older, white, male and moneyed.
Biden is the latest version of that. We don’t need more of the same.

Apogee, I don't deny the pattern. Nor do I support Biden. I deny that Biden is a poor choice because of his skin color and age. I brought it to attention for two reasons.
1. making racists judgements supports racism and will likely bring more racism. That's just my opinion, but it's reasonable and most of us do oppose racism.
2. The neo-cons are not stupid. If and when enough voters are not motivated by racism the neo-cons can simply choose a person of color who will do their bidding. In effect they can say, "the libs are right we must put more people of color in power". They elect a Marco Rubio or a crazy like Sara Palin and the country will still be a long way from positive change. Rubio or Palin (or the likes of them) are unlikely to support: single payer health care, end of citizens united, banning private prisons, banking regulation reform, end to gerrymandering, etc. The self-identifying liberals who make anti-white racist comments are helping the neo-cons. The neo-cons expose the hypocrisy, making the libs look stupid and hippocritcal. The dumb KKK-types in US use the anti-white comments as evidence to show the libs are trying to replace white people. Which is nonsense, but nonsense motivates dumb KKK-types. So liberals (progressives/leftists/ anti-trumpers, for lack of a better term) should not use these over-simplifications in political discussions. Over simplifications are simple-minded and, IMO, will backfire.

For clarity, I don’t consider using the term ‘white’ in this context to be pejorative- simply stating a reality that has a significant influence on the way voters see a potential candidate.

Norton opined,
yes, because American society is racist and misogynous
Yes sir! You are surely racist and misogynous...

It gets better. Norton still holds the record of being the only person on the taco to post a racist picture of President Obama and calling him the N-word.

Nice try. I recall that, and Norton was quoting others, exposing the racism.

After the chaos of Trump, I think many Americans wish for a steady hand, from someone with knowledge and experience with complex political situations. They also desire someone who is gracious, has humor (not at someones' expense), and who knows how to say and do the right thing when things go wrong.
Despite Biden's failings, he probably addresses these large issues far better than anyone else running, on either side.
I don't get the sense that the populace is willing to take another chance on change for change sake.

Not a pejorative.
Just a negative characteristic.

Well, from the perspective of a candidate whose loss is confirmed to have been significantly influenced by the fact they were white, yes, I suppose that’s a negative characteristic.
