Well, everybody had so much fun with the "Who The Hell Are You People?" thread that I thought I'd try something similar.
Everyone loves their kids and loves to show them off, so let's show off our kids! I'll start it off.

Here's one of the whole crew. Johnson Pass is 26 miles. We did about 8 miles a day and spent two nights out. The little ones humped their own loads!!

Hello everybody, sorry so late to the show, but my daddy's been busy working and missed this post the first go around. I'm my parents first kid! I turned 1 yrs. old last Sunday, November 9th. I've had a great first year, my daddy takes me on lots of adventures. No climbing yet, but my daddy promises he'll show me "The Way" to complete and utter blissfulness someday soon, whatever that means?! Thx. for letting me post my pictures, you all seem like very nice people, maybe someday we can get together and I can play and climb with your kids...bye bye!

Great kids everyone... you can't go wrong with this thread. I got a few of my own, you know. Somebody say something about a preponderance of girls? I got some of them:
Audrey @ Newport Beach (aka Miss Snooty Cat):
My oldest, Hannah at her high school graduation last spring with Papa:
She's now at UCSD and livin' the college life (with her cute sister Molly... not mine, but her mom's; Hannah has a total of four siblings and counting all together!):
But wait, there is a boy too. The amazing Colin. A regular outdoorsman just like Daddy. Messing around in Rock Creek this summer:
Costco is actually a playground, you know:
Going local in Seminyak, Bali. First discovery of lollipops:
Best buddies... are we not cute or what?
Yup, this definitely confirms it!
TO BE CONTINUED?....

good place to post this adventure, although we're all four years older.
nice little family climb, but this family likes to sleep late and we didn't quite make the rim by dark. nice cellphone contact with mom down below from that little ledge, nice mild august night, a little family spooning.
nick was especially mad about my insisting that he use his souvenir college newspaper for insulating when he began shivering, but they supplied another copy when they learned the whole story. nick was also ticked about not getting back down for a promised sit-down dinner at the ahwahnee. nick now lives in manhattan--but we get along great.

my dear makalu turns six,
this child is as durable as they come,
if a train were to run into her she'd call it a massage.
whats she so excieted upon?
the treasures in ma nature's purse.
meanwhile, as we've no power,
paps is cooking dinner in the woodstove.
then we attended our own dream,
as them kids grow all around im left standing unmoved though astounded
time's reference fades
and i cannot pray tell if what has happened is not the
exact same circumstance as all that might transpire.
im still in my being.
the world upon me is dynamic and explosive.
i feel a confluence of nevers upon me.
so im crooked a little,
shouldering all these pasts and futures.
the ponderables and the confusions (confusions echo)
consumate in me brain, and a reality is borne.
it is as though i am the now.
f*#kin cliche as it is,
littered with wee-passive voices.
not mine voice it was arrested long ago.
too many infractions upon infrastructures.
silence is my statement.

Our daughter Meaghan recently took a position teaching middle school math at the Denver School of Science and Technology. My wife and I took her out a few weeks back to help her look for apartments.
But first, we did a little X-C skiing with cousin Audrey outside the Indian Peaks Wilderness.
Then Meg and her mom performed an interpretive dance on-stage at Red Rocks.
Following the apartment search, we drove down to Colorado Springs.
Meaghan and Karol mug for the camera.
While in the springs, Meg had work to do. She was Co-Head Judge for the USA Climbing Adult Bouldering Nationals.
As soon as she wraps up teaching this year in Bridgeport, CT, Meg will drive out to Denver to begin teaching summer school and work on developing her lesson plans for the 2012/13 school year. The little brat actually beat us in moving out to Colorado.
Please, dear God, let our house in New Hampshire sell this year...

Last Weekend...a special father/son experience...we left the car at 6:30am, stood on top of East Buttress of Middle at 8:30am, did it in 3 pitches, simul-climbed to the base of the bolt ladder, slowed down to both free it, then simul-climbed to the top. Then made our way down the gulley, took a hard right and went up the Northeast Buttress of Higher, topping out at 3:30pm. We were pretty tired at the end of that, 24 pitches of super quality, and some gully mileage...Awesome Day!

On the topic of genes, my sister sent off a DNA sample and they sent back a list of what geographic region our ancestors were from. I assume it is fairly accurate on the big numbers, but on the tiny costituents it is small.

Today my Dad's 91st birthday falls on Thanksgiving…and the synchronicity does not go unnoticed by me. My Dad was/is part of the Greatest Generation. He served his country well after graduation from the Naval Academy. He lost his beloved younger brother in WWII. He buried his 27 year old wife and was left with 3 children under the age of 7. My two older brothers and I were raised by him when the word "Single Parent" didn't really exist. Barely 15 years after losing our Mom he buried my oldest brother, a Vietnam casualty. He never remarried until we had all graduated from high school. When I asked him "why", he said he saw our Mom's face when he looked at each of us. When we were little he would take us fishing. I hated the slimy feel of putting the worm on the hook. He or my brothers would bait my hook. Finally one day he said if I wanted to go fishing I needed to bait my own hook. That metaphor has stuck with me for my whole life as guidance for being independent and the importance of making our own way.
Last year after a colonoscopy the doctor said to him "everything is fine, see you in 10 years". Ya know, I think it could happen….even though he's 3000 miles away I just can't conceive of knowing he isn't on the other end of a phone call.

My Dad passed last night at the age of 92. It was a rough couple of months as he just couldn't muster the reserves to bounce back from pneumonia and entered skilled nursing and started sliding into early dementia or "sundowners". I was with him in mid May and we had a grand time watching baseball, rolling around the facility (which he thought was a big fancy hotel...it was beautiful) and every time we rolled near an "exit" sign he said "let's go, it's time to get out of here". Luckily he still knew all his family and was pretty oriented so it was a wonderful visit but I did think it was probably the last.
The ever lasting lesson he taught me was when I was little and wanted to go fishing with him and my two older brothers. I hated baiting my own hook and he said "If you want to go fishing with us, you'll need to bait your own hook". My eternal thanks to a Dad that instilled independence and an absolute delight in life. I'll miss him horribly.
God speed Dad...
I love you.

you are correct, crag.
it is sad.
but every gray lining has a touch of silver.
that morning, i pulled a difficult
a.m. desk shift and earned a $2000 bonus,
and then pushed out 8 hours in the field.
biers after work wrecked me.
it was a low day on my calendar
and i've since broken an ill
relationship with the booze,
and have just imbibed twice
in the last month.
i plan to limit my intake even more.
i got this,
thank you for your uncensored assessment.

the protocol for new-word
introduction into an established
language is quite restrictive;
er, yea. umm,
pretty much the vernacular womb is sealed
with government guards
hiding behind folds
discouraging handsome suitors
who are swollen with poetic discharge..
so, let us stack existing words
into a sculpted phrase
that exceeds common communication...
Brynie is song-in-flesh.
she'll (?) feel her way
thru a dream, and not
be distracted by the pretty colors...
rearranging It as she goes
such that it suits her best
as well as all those whom will
surely follow her.

if i misassumed the child's sex)

Yesterday my daughter sang in a chorus for the Prime Minister of India, in front of a live audience of 35,000 - 40,000 people! Only 11 years old, and experienced something that most people will never get to experience- tens of thousands of people cheering for you. Damn, now she can relate to Led Zeppelin, Queen, Madonna, Britney Spears, and Justin Bieber. It was a chorus comprising her Indian classical singing classmates:
Edit: The subtle facial expressions of PM Modi are pretty funny during the USA National Anthem.
Clearly the singing genes comes from my ex, but I contributed a healthy does of musical genes.
And my ex was the driving force for Hindi and Indian Classical singing lessons.
It falls to me to handle the training for:
sleeping in the dirt under the stars, and going to the bathroom outside.

Thanks! Ya both of my kids prefer playing with cars to just about anything.
The 20 month old was into it at first but the harness was too big and she got annoyed when it was up in her face. The three year old did great until he was about 10 feet off the ground, then he was a little scared so I walked up and got him.
Went well for our trial run with the harness!

Thanks Gnome. And too be fair, all she had to do was lie there on a heated pad while the docs did all the work. How hard is that? ;)

Be swell it really does go by fast.
*This touch screen computer does not recognize the "previous" icon, it only toggles to the "first" "next" & "last" so .... Argh

Gnome, a couple suggestions for you to try (if you haven't already): on the forum page tap the number of responses for the thread you want to view to take you directly to the last page, or, once in a thread, click "Show All" (with First/Last/Next/Previous) to display the thread in one long page so you can scroll straight to the end (a looong, image heavy thread like this it will probably take a few moments to load, but I imagine it will still be quicker than going through page by page).

He’s engaged.
They met while both were studying in Germany a few years ago. She’s Russian...and he’s a California boy. Talk about long distance romance. It’s been going on over 5 years so it seems to be working. They plan a 2020 “destination” wedding half way between Russia and California. Guess I better get my Visas updated.
I’m so happy for them. She’s an incredible athlete and dancer with impeccable English. She loves Yosemite, the great outdoors, rips up the slopes and boy can she ice skate.

There's a 50:50 chance a set of my genes are out there in a particular case, but overall I'm thinking I've done the world a favor basically keeping them to myself. That said, I have raised a stepdaughter since the age of five and got her launched with plenty of passion, solid credentials, and zero student loan debt.

....her launched with plenty of passion, solid credentials, and zero student loan debt...
Then you did more for her than genes would ever contribute.

A short visit yesterday while on the road.
Big changes going on and I wish her well.
I truly feel sad for those who don't want a child simply because the "World Is How It Is."
What if more parents felt that way? I wouldn't want to live in THAT world, for sure!
Children should be our biggest source of hope.
