Hot & Humid does seem to take a greater toll - it fills up the medical tents much faster. Sweat can't evaporate and cool you, so you sweat even more. The 2007 Chicago Marathon was a disaster in terms of heat & humidity's impact on a large sample size of humans.
http://www.runnersworld.com/chicago-marathon/melt-down?page=8
Running the Numbers
45,000 Runners registered for the 2007 LaSalle Bank Chicago Marathon
6,327 Charity runners who registered for the race (5,164 of them reportedly finished)
15,763 First-time marathoners registered for the race
36,280 Official number of starters (including wheelchair athletes)
10,746 Runners who were diverted, injured, or who dropped out
25,534 Official number of 2007 finishers
1,363 Number of runners who broke 3:35 (finishing before the race was officially canceled)
3,640 Number of runners who broke four hours
11,611 Number who broke four hours in 2006
685 Number of people seen by medical personnel (including spectators)
185 Number of runners transferred by ambulance to a hospital (an additional 135 required transfer to the main medical tent)
66 Number of runners admitted to a Chicago hospital for inpatient care
12 Number of runners who were admitted to a Chicago hospital in critical condition
Chicago provides yet another prime example of heat stress. The 1995 heat wave killed over 700 residents in a few days as the heat index (combination of heat and humidity) soared to 120 and stayed high every evening.

Drink up! Ingest electrolytes. Check-in with each other.

Interesting stuff but still no definitive answer. Does one lose more fluid from sweat in humid or dry conditions given the same temperature?
The second link from goatboy has a debate with both sides being equally represented.
What about swimming? I tend to get dehydrated swimming, but that may be partly because I don't like to stop (when lap swimming in a pool), so I usually don't drink up until I'm finished.

Mike, your reasoning is spot on. You sweat when your body needs to shed heat. In dry conditions, the sweat does its job because it evaporates quickly, pulling the heat from you for the liquid-to-gas phase change. In humid conditions, it stays liquid, and you just dehydrate for no benefit.

jumps in a blonde pony tailed, black Nike jog bra tan woman. I must have spent a good five minutes fending off Brandy Chastain. Pretty cool.
This past spring when. Was channel surfing I saw her on TV on some celebrity diving show. Man is she still a HARD body.
Lapping...ha ha ancient history for me.
Oh well, at least I'm still breathing!

I did my best speed-work in 10 years on Tuesday (16 x 400 @ 6:30-6:45 pace w/ 100 recovery).
That night woke up with severe vertigo, fought it blindly till Thursday and went to ER. Now I can't walk a straight line; but only slight dizziness. First time ever suffering this malady. They gave me dilaudid (headache pain) and valium for vertigo. Some strong medicine! I went from one extreme to the other. Two days later I still haven't gotten my balance back. So much for my 5k today...

four mile swim, holy smokes!!
Indeed! Where is it warm enough to stay in the water that long without a wetsuit? Most certainly nowhere near the Bay Area!
Susan, nice map screenshots. What app/device do you use to record?
I've been crippled by a severely malfunctioning Shimano Di2 rear derailleur, which translates to going from a 241 mile week to a 52 mile week (last 2 weeks). Getting bored and restless, I did my first run in over a year, choosing to start at the bottom of the famed Dipsea Stairs (to Edgewood Ave, Cypress Trail, Tenderfoot Trail, Cascade - back to stairs.
Dipsea Stairs off the couch = OUCH.
Although I ran with a short stride to minimize muscle recruitment in an effort to limit soreness after the run, 3 days later it's hard to walk. ;-)

Timid & Nita, thanks for the tips. I did some research yesterday and read about the Epley Exercises. I did it once.
Strange sensations to say the least. I walk like I am inebriated, now I have severe ear ache.
edit: went to an ENT doc yesterday, the vertigo was caused by a virus. It takes 6 weeks to totally dissipate and hopefully never return. I was already on antibiotics for sinus infection. They tested my hearing; not good news; but most of the damage is from old school shotgun shooting (without earplugs).
Using the prescribed treatment by dr timid to help with balance. Going for a run today...

If you have an earache too, get to a doctor!
Sounds like you have an inner ear infection.
I lost one ear to sudden idiopathic deafness and had screwed up balance for more than a year. (probably from a viral infection of the inner ear)
You don't want to go there!

Hardman....they are the Google Earth images from uploads from my Garmin 500 device I use on my bike and Garmin Forerunner 410 wrist unit for my running.
The couch to Dipsea...crazy person. Haven't done a Dipsea in over 20 years, could say its because I haven't gotten a slot in th lottery, but really I haven't even applied!
Yesterday: finished the metric century of the Santa Cruz Mtns Challenge, 7000 feet of climbing. Today: trying to reclaim my body. Think another ice bath in store.

Two hours on the road bike this morning, at an easy conversational pace. Managed to squeeze it in there between the end of commute traffic and the beginning of the heat for a very pleasant ride.

I ran 7 sluggish miles on my "hill course". I woke up with the wobbly legs; but the Epley exercise helped.
The ENT doc said my vertigo was caused by a virus; he didn't name it and said effects will linger for about 6 weeks. I am on antibiotics for sinus infection, and that should clear up abnormalities in my ear drum. He didn't name the virus, and didn't say how he came to that conclusion.
From what I read it must be Vestibular neuronitis; due to the symptoms, my respiratory problems and his treatment.
The other viral vertigo disorder, Cochlear neuronitis, sounds far more serious.

Your brain has to be a little pre-fried to enter the Badwater Race. Local does good, finished 9th overall at Badwater (2011). He's a bad man, 49 years old at the time.

Cooler temps have been good for running in Auburn lately. Saturday, 7 miles on WST in ASRA. Sunday, ran Goat Hill from Quarry Road parking, to cool and back to no hands bridge (11 to 12 miles). Hoping to run 30 to 40 this week. Hope everyone else is racking up the miles. More hills!
