Re Dr. F's post about the NRA convention.
I recieved a call tonight from a lad, who identified himself as calling on behalf of the NRA.
He asked if I was supporting Republican Congressional Representative Mike Simpson in the upcoming election, and started to explain why I should support him. I calmed him down, by explaining my support for Simpson. (I got called, because I am a registered Republican.)
The Tea Party is running & funding a ultra-conservative trial lawyer against Simpson, since despite Simpson's almost always voting with the Republicans in the House, he has been a voice of moderation, and-------shudder-gasp-----voted for the "bailout" and is proud of it, and also was one of the very few Republicans in Congress to vote for the Obama budget last fall.
He's been a marked man by the Koch brothers ever since-------as not conservative enough!.
It is Interesting to see the NRA & also the U.S. Chamber of Commerce supporting a moderate Republican against a Tea Party Radical.
Is this the beginning of the end for the Tea Party?
Hard to tell in Idontno, the most Republican state.

Fritz, I too am a registered Republican
I vote in Republican Primary elections
and i vote for the most pure, most extremely conservative Tea Party candidate
thus, I vote for the Republican I want most to face the Democrat in the general election
I consider this my patriotic duty

But my congressional district is 70% LDS, and there is a snowball's chance in Hell of the best Democratic candidate beating the village-idiot LDS Republican Candidate.
I think I have to vote for the lesser evil, who is also not a fool.

We have Piketty and the study that shows America is an oligarchy out and in the news the same week some nutjob starts ranting about cows and the gubmint.
Say something crazy, the crazier the better, and we have to respond.
We're taking the bait (so did a few presidential hopefuls so don't feel bad.)

Base- I teach history and government and I am fighting against that kind of nonsense. I'm trying to explain the three branches of the Federal government and they tell me about Obama's FEMA camps that will be used to gas American citizens.
They are being taught elsewhere, and it's nuts.

Tom that's why it's imperative that we fight the lies and obstructionism of the political Right even if when we resort to ridicule and shaming.
History will condemn complacent silence much more than rough language and dogged resistance.

Check out Fountain Hughes- he rants like a standard old man, then says that if he ever went back to being a slave he'd blow his brains out.
You think people like Bundy actually want to read the constitution? Supreme law of the land and everything? General welfare clause?
Don't get them started on the civil war unless you're wearing a helmet. I have these people in my family, it's not worth the trouble. It's an illness.

Ill bet half of those "9" were homeless folks they paid ten bucks to-- to hold signs..

I think Ron and the Oaf Keepers should do whatever they can to keep this issue in the public eye. Make it an election issue. Demand that the Republican's stand with you! Don't let them keep their extremist aunts & uncles locked up in the root cellar, get them out into the light of day. Maybe they could provide security at the convention.
