Rained hard ..... starting at 5a.... when I went past SP on the way to work, the rain had stopped.... for now.
We need it!!
Badly
So the place is officially CLOSED for now, lets hope we get a one week steady dump.
And I would just like to say something to that group of NEW CLIMBERS who have been top roping at Beethoven latley..... I watched you walk in with your gear and your 18 pack of Tecate beer, nothing wrong with that.
But you did abandon all 18 empty cans and about 50 cig butts ... so I am calling fowl on you dudes, we will meet soon and discuss.

i-b-goB - wow!
Went through your link to the history of the SF Valley. I can remember back in the late 30s when as a child (of course)I descended in my father's car into the valley over the newly paved Sepulveda Pass. There were very few paved roads back then - just the main thoroughfares - everything else, dirt!.
In 1961, having lived in the LA basin since I was 3 years old and in the Manhattan Beach area quite a bit of that time, I was introduced to rock climbing at Stoney. At the time I lived in a brand new tract home in East Anaheim. By the end of 1961, I decided I had to live closer to Stoney, so I uprooted my family of 4, bought a brand new tract home in Canoga Park and moved!
I became a "regular" at Stoney with Hennek, Boche, McLean, Kamps, and Higgins. Kamps was the only one my age - the rest were still in high school.
God, did we have great times at Stoney!

Don Lauria ..... solid post.
SP in 1961 .... I was 8 .... went there on a Day-care field trip, I recall the Ranaldi DIP... drive down into a big wash... ford a small stream... steep up hill - all on dirt roads.

Ok this is just a notice to the folks who did the hit and run last nite at Stoney........
Making a U turn from your parking spot on Topanga is one of the most reckless things you can do in your car!
Anyway the Motorcycle rider you took out is one lucky dude..... he was able to throw himself over the guardrail to avoid getting hit by all the oncoming traffic..... his Harley didn't hit any cars..... after 96 arrived they patched him up and he walked out of the ambulance.
But to you miss blond with the skinhead BF we do have a description of your car.... we do have 3 people who saw you do that messy U turn. The police do have some of the numbers from your plate and maybe the big traffic camera mounted on the pole .... right there... will help.
And thanks to the climbers.. John, Joe and Eric, who rushed up the hill and got into the traffic and directed it into one lane around the fallen rider.
Drive safe now.

Yes... that's the way it went down... we were down at Boulder 1. It was dark- all we herd was the sound of something scraping along the pavement.... It went on forever. I thought somebody had lost a trailer or something and it was getting dragged a long way...
The boys who went up the hill did a great job and walked right out into the traffic and used headlamps to get the cars stopped.... the cars were just swerving around the dude who was rolling around on the pavement. He in a lot of pain from the 4th degree road rash on his knees/arms and hands and was worried about his bike. (a true biker) Lucky for him a AMR ambulance stopped and they did what they could for the guy.
The 911 system was overloaded and it took me a long time .... about 5 min to get through.
and after all that, the dude climbed out of the LAFD ambulance (#96- Mike Waughs old outfit)all bandaged up and was able to get a ride home.
Some friends of his rolled up in a truck and I helped them roll the bike into the truck.
a wild nite for sure.... the night bouldering was really good- it was about 75 at 8pm.

Found a crash pad and 2 pairs of shoes attached to it on the side of topanga today. Seems like someone forgot to load their car up!
If someone can message me the make of the pad and shoes then we can meet up, otherwise I appreciate the free stuff!

Stoney Point looking south in the early 1950s, before Topanga went through to the 118 Freeway. The old Santa Susana Pass Road begins its ascent up the hills at this point. Source: Chatsworth Historical Society
