Seattle hasn't faced a defense as bad as Denver's since week 11 vs Minnesota and still came out of the regular season with the 8th ranking offense.

But Denver has been out scoring its opponents at a rate unparalleled to any team in NFL history, right? And while Denver's fanbase has been enamored with Manning and the their fantasy all-star offense, they have not noticed the defensive efficiency of Seattle. Who, by the way, ranks second at 1.3 points per game behind Denver in average scoring margin during the 2013 season.

Seattle played a lot of ball control and didn't have to press themselves to score points. Looking at stats you have a #1 defense vs a #1 offense which should balance out somewhat. And then you have Seattle's #8 offense vs Denver's #22 defense which is where I believe the advantage weighs toward the Hawks.

To say that the Seahawks offense is anywhere near the Broncos is ludicrous.

Keep telling yourself that Philo,

Check post above and re-do the math. It's easy to look good against low ranking D's. Thanks for doing the homework Osprey.

edit: Again, I hope Denver crushes them.

All I really want in the SB is a competent officiating crew that stays out of the limelight and makes judicious calls correctly. Let the players PLAY FOOTBALL...

The Bronco receivers better know this could easily be them.

Pothole number 1

Kam is the size of a linebacker but has the speed and moves of a DB. The enforcer at SS.

Those manning slant routes over the middle are a bad idea.

Seattle is indeed dangerous. However, everything talked about here, the coaches all know. So, the question comes down to: Who can execute the plays that the coaches decide upon?

Manning and co. can certainly execute. So, comments like "_ is a bad idea," while true, are known to be true. And Manning and co. will execute different things.

Seattle is dangerous, but so is Denver.

I hope to see a good game. Most SBs are snooze-fests that are over by halftime.

Does Denver have enough offense? I think so. Does Seattle have enough offense? Remains to be seen.

Hank.... glad you had lunch with your friends and got set straight. This isn't a defense to mess with. In case your bro's missed anything allow me to share my perspective.

I've been a 'hawk fan since day one. It's my opinion that this is the best team they have ever assembled. I'll skip out on the yapping about the offense but let me point out why their defense is pot holes for every team they play.

It starts in the middle.
Earl Thomas III is considered by many to be the best FS in the game. I agree with that assessment. He runs a 4.37 40. His speed allows him to roam a little more and make up for it on the end. He missed the deflection on that last 9ers TD but not by much.

Next is Bobby Wagner - his tackle totals speak for itself.

In the middle on the D-line is Brandon Mebane and a number of hawks players feel he's the best nose tackle in the game.

Moving back to the secondary at SS is Kam Chancelor. He's a safety in a linebackers body. Cross the middle and don't duck quick enough and you'll be done for the day. He hits harder than any SS in the game. No debate.

Then there are the corners. I don't need to say anything about Sherman - his play speaks for itself. The strength here is their depth. Maxwell is starting but Thurmond and Lane easily could start as well (and would start of almost every team in the league). Big, fast, lanky and they play ball the same way. It's why the LOB is the best secondary in the league.

the outside linebackers are another strength. KJ Wright is big and fast and can shut down any TE in the league. Opposite side is Bruce Irvin. Originally drafted as a DE they converted him to WOLB and he's done very well. Malcolm Smith who filled in for KJ would start on most teams.

Then there is the D-line. It took them a while to figure things out. They depth here is why they simply cannot be worn down. On first down it's Mebane at NT, McDaniel next, Chris Clemons on one side for pass rushing just in case, and Red Bryant who use to be a tackle but got moved to end. He's huge and quick for his size. If it's a passing down Avril and Bennett sub in and then usually McDonald for Mebane.

Point being is they have the depth and skill set for any situation and that keeps them fresh. When the season started and they had all these guys on the DL they had to figure out how to play them in the best combo. They have done that.

You'll mostly see the base formation - 4/3/4. If the denver OL can't protect manning with a four man rush it's a long day.

A digression away from defense but one other strength for the 'hawks is special teams. Most teams don't play their starters. Seattle does for the most part. Watch out for that.

The weather is going to be a huge x-factor. Crappy weather favors the 'hawks.

By the way, the last time the Seattle Seahawks and the Denver Broncos played each other in the playoffs was Dec. 24th, 1983. Seattle won 31-7. Anyone remember? I do. I was at the game.

Nature, I was right with you until the quoted line. I agreed with everything and thought it was a really, really prescient analysis. Had you stopped there, I would have been only impressed.

Why I mention the quoted line is that this is a common sort of argument floated in this thread, and I just don't get the relevance. The matchup in 1983 is much like comparing caveman tooling to Samurai swords. This whole line of argument just goes nowhere, and in this particular case actually undercuts the force of everything else you said.

So, I'll now proceed by ignoring that line, sticking strictly to the other great analysis you did, and simply say, "I'm more afeared for my Broncs than I was before. Hope nobody gets seriously messed up!"

Thanks for a really great walk-through!

Mad! I didn't write that for any kind of comparison. My goodness.. I'd be the worse hypocrite. The most ridiculous part of the entire 9er/hawk rivalry is the 9ers spraying about the rings they have. The past means nothing in that sense.

I only added that part because it's fun. I actually remember 30 years ago and I knew where to find that ticket from that game. And really... what did Krieg ever do after that. Geeezus.... even Elway did better by moving on to become a new car salesman ;)

Funny thing is there's not a mention anywhere out there about that game 30 years ago. I'm sure we'll get some of it as game time approaches.

But really.... 100 level in the kingdome for 18 bucks. That's kinda awesome! (actually my dad had a friend with season tickets so we didn't pay a dime for them).

Edit: next week on the Boulder Cruiser ride I'm dressing up.... As a full-blown seahawk fan.

Brian Billick on Fox Sports today rolled out the same arguments I posted here yesterday: The Denver receivers are all very physical as well as adept at catching the ball.

Julius Thomas and Jacob Tamme are some big, physically bruising tight ends who can hit as well as take some pounding. Welker and Decker are very fast and aren't easily intimidated. I look for lots of screen passes to Knowshon Moreno, and the big wide receiver Demarius Thomas won't be stopped by Sherman; he's too tall and is also a basketball player...er...was in college; he can certainly do the "jump ball" trick.

I don't think the game will be low scoring, but there will be lots of field goals as well.

If Demarius Thomas is covered by Sherman I hope that Manning throws that direction every time.

Vernon Davis is BIG:

How many concussions has Welker had in the last 2+ years?

This is my "P.S."

I've bee a Broncos fan for as long as they've been around, but even more so after living across the street from Rulon "Mongo" Jones, #75 in the "Orange Crush. He was a great guy in the neighborhood and all the kiddos idolized him. I moved away to Wyoming because of my job, and he moved on to raising horses.
