Badile North - Cassin route

the megaclassical of summer...well this year we had NO summer in the Alps

a weekend....trying the Cassin in August and find it in winter conditions, getting out a snowstorm and make it home by climbing the Nordridge in subzero temperatures... when the mountain remembers us how small we are.

So many pictures I've seen of the Cassin Route make it look like a pleasant summer outing. It's nice to see some August pictures like yours to remind me of the epic on the FA of the Cassin Route. It's easy to see from you pictures how fatalities resulted in the 1930's -- and could result almost as easily with modern equipment today.

Thanks for posting, and for the fine pics and report.

Nice pics of a beautiful peak. Sigi Hupfauer wrote an account in Summit about a tragic death in summer from exposure on the Piz Badile, "Even Experts Get The Chop".

That is a fine looking peak. That approach ledge is not. Thank you.

Wow, great looking spot in seriously fearsome conditions. It's hard to believe how quickly circumstances can change there. Easy recipe for disaster, and makes Yosemite Valley seem so tame.
