CANTABACO PHILIPINES CLIMBING & GIVING!!!

Here is a group of climbers from Camp Siete (camp seven). The town was the last village occupied by the Japanese in WWII. It is a short 10-15 minute motorcycle ride from Cantabaco. All of the gear used in these photos except the orange rope were made possible by your donations. All of the kids leading are avid climbers who had to borrow gear (and hope that it wasn't being used) before. There are several beginners who had a great time experiencing climbing for the first time and may become climbing junkies. The area where the photos were taken is called Area 5 it is part of the large limestone formation but it is a 3-5 minute steep hike to get up to this area. Area 5 is characterized by high quality LONG routes. There are no beginning climbs here the easiest route is 5.11a. It is a very good area to push yourself because their is not much protruding rock to hit! Enjoy...

I was just thinking about you guys last night. Wondered how things were going.
So cool to see what hours of joy a little spare unused gear can bring.
Any more packages being lined up?

Who pays for the shipping if I donate some stuff?
I've got a good rope and some reasonable trad gear that could be fixed for pro, or whatever.....

Aloha from the Islands of Hawaii,
Thanks for a great share, I had the high school Fil-Am club doing a pot luck in my room when I read it so I showed them, thanks now I got 20 young kids wanting to learn how to climb, we enjoyed your fotos.
Is that on Cebu? My in laws were up north during the occupation and had some funny and very sad tales of what life was like then.
Mabuhay,
Will

I would be glad to coordinate another box here in San Diego. I think someone in LA mentioned that they might sponsor a box, just depends where the gear is coming from. I can collect in San Diego, maybe meet up in JTree to collect gear. The gear goes via freight in a huge box for a flat rate of $75 dollars.
Thanks for posting the pics, very cool seeing the gear getting put to very good use.
