Thanks for all of the nice comments. I was not sure he was ready but as there was a very small croud we decided to go for it. Nothing is better than doing this stuff with people you care about no matter the grade. I will not forget this day. I took him to the tower when he was two days old and 11 years later we stood on top. It would not have been the end of the world if we would not have done it but it was really fun when we did do it. This with good friends and people we just met.

Awesome. Great job on the trip report and good on you getting up the tower! That one is on my list.

I took my son up his first multi pitch at Beacon Rock. It has to be one of the greatest climbs ever. For him and me.

Here is the TR of that trip:

You must have one proud dad.

Good stuff, that was the route we did back in the 60s. There was a sign on the top, "No climbing above this point". Is that still there?

Thanks for the wonderful TR, and to those who bumped this. Tim Schiller, my main climbing partner for 45 years, and I took our daughters, both 10-years-old at the time, (i.e., fifth grade age) on their first multi-pitch climb 15 years ago. It took a while (like about 13 years), but my daughter returned to lead that climb, because it made a lasting impression on her.

I hope you and your friend get to enjoy climbing with your children as much as I have enjoyed climbing with mine.

Great climb! Big Grats!

Devils tower is the first vertical mountain I remember inspiring me to want to climb it when I was about 6 or 7. My dad had a picture of it. We drove by it on a road trip a couple years later. I was impressed.. it was much bigger than it looked in the picture. Dad asked me if I still wanted to climb it..

Yeah but it's too big for me I told him. So we hiked around it. Great memory of time with dad.

Went to Nemo today to look around, but couldn't do much since I got a badly sprained ankle playing baseball, feels pretty good now, but am not supposed to bend my able in the way climbing and hiking requires.so I am stuck in a clunky support boot for 4 more Weeks, I've had it for 2 already.

Lynnie, did you say he had a huge head after bagging the Tower?

He seems pretty humble to me.
