Cracks n' Stuff
Thursday March 8, 2012 10:11pm
Sometimes you just have to get out of town to recharge your batteries. With school, work, and more school stuff to take care of traveling is my way of expressing myself without fear of ridicule or regret.

As most of us from the pacific to the inter-mountain west know, we've been having a pretty warm winter, and snow conditions have fully sucked. I told my buds that they needed to provided all the necessary equipment for skiing, camping, and climbing. This includes powder...

We shredded Brighton and Snowbird on back to back blower days. In all reality these were some of the only legit pow days of the year. My buddies were blown away by the quality of the snow and terrain. One of them kept saying how every time he thought we were almost down to the chair we weren't even halfway yet! I had a good time making sure they had jello legs. But they were toast after just two epic days, and I had to work so the boys headed over to a deserted antelope island for a bit of adventuring.

After a rest day for the boys, and a day at the office for me we headed down to sandstone shangri la.

The desert always blows my mind so I cannot even begin to imagine what was going on behind those glazed eyes and dry mouths of my bro's from yesteryear.

Once fueled up and properly psyched we cragged a bit above camp before calling it a day. Unfortunately the homies were to busy galking at the sights to snap any photos, sorry. Besides they'd have to save their memory cards for tomorrows big hike!

This place is very unique in that instead of descending one way into a slot you hike up one canyon and then down into an adjacent canyon. Making the hike very easy with just one vehicle.

I chose a fairly tame slot for my buds since only one of them had any climbing experience. Luckily even on some of the tricky sections they floated with ease.

Unfortunately I didn't onsight the mack daddy crack, but that's not what this trip was about. This trip was about getting away from my day to day life with the people I love. We all had a blast, and came back from this trip with some amazing memories. I know my buddies will be back for more pow, and more desert exploration.

Thanks for reading!

Cool Gripa-enjoyable TR, adventure multitasking. Now if you just added in a little surfing you would have had it all.

I wish Guido! Maybe next time I visit my friends in Encinitas I'll have to be sure to document the whole trip.

Excellent trip. Excellent trip report!

I particularly appreciate TR's like this while I'm stuck in the flats recuperating from Achilles tendon surgery.

Thanks much.

That's pretty good variety and cool to be able to pull it off with work sandwiched in between.
