Fall is the time to get out here with very stable weather, the tourists and everyone else is gone, and around 250 routes up to 500ft long in about a one mile circumference.

Very cool! Thanks for taking the time to share.

Did you see BrassNuts out there? He's been there for a few days with a friend. Funny thing is he mentioned all the turkey vultures too. Must be a cool sight!

I didn't see another climber today on the West Face, but last week we hung with a group of 20 Coloradans and met a couple of others from there in the parking lot. Hard to believe ther was no one of the West face on such a splitter day. Temps were around 80 and it kind of got warm when the sun came around. I know there were several groups on the south face today. It was good to see some seldom done classics getting done last week like Gooseberry Jam I have never seen anyone on it before. I definately need to get out and do that.

Yeah Neebee I do a lot of climbing in the Needles, but the tower is only about an hour from my home in Spearfish. The last several years I have been hitting up the needles more but I am finally getting back in the kind of shape I want to be in to do a lot of the Tower classics and hopefully start getting some that had eluded me back in the day. Today I did the second pitch of One Way Sunset and it had been well over a decade since I the other time I had done it. I think my hand crack technique has improved as I remembered it being desparate back them but it was nothing but fun today. Here is a link to some Black Hills photos.http://www.supertopo.com/climbing/thread.php?topic_id=1110537&msg=1232226#msg1232226

totally agree with 3rd pitch of Tulgey Wood being the hardest 5.9 ever. Coming from the valley, seeing 5.9 OW generally causes the ears to perk up, and the palms to sweat. But I mean thats the valley right, no way this can be a burly. NOT TRUE. That sh#t is legit. And the 10a finger pitch below is awesome!

Took my 9 year old son out for his first real time on a rope at the tower this weekend after the adopt a crag event. He belayed me on lead for the first time and did 500 ft on two eights, a six and a seven.
