High Exploratory Foray. Into The Land Of Dingus With MI6

Well, It might not have been EXACTLY high, but we did get to around 10,000 ft. I think.
Ok, It might not be EXACTLY the land of Dingus, but DMT does seem to like this part of the Sierra a lot.
Nor was I EXACTLY with MI6, but Undercover Secret Agent Man wouldn't let me post any pictures of him without some disguise, so I decided to play with that too!
With only a couple days to escape the lowlands, no real prep time, and a whole family and a dog to consider, we opted for easy camping above Caples Lake. Luckily, the campground was full so we did much more awesome "dispersed" camping!
Carson Pass is beautiful and a place I'd never been in 35 years of driving through California to get to Yosemite. Never knew that was where Kit Carson first brought emigrants into California. That Mormon trail is a cool road too eh?
Thing two was instantly on the critter hunt as usual.
That boy loves him some snakes!
Then comes food, then comes food coma.
The ridge above camp was easy and the views were awesome.
A girl and her New Mexico Rez mutt.
Got chores, I'll finsih up and post some more pix later.
Including a ONE TREE FOREST FIRE!
Grandfather Juniper, 700 years old (FS estimate) was struck by lightning.
SOOO sad to see him on his last day....

Biotch, yes the boulders are starting to show.
Guido, same camera. You're right, it's something about the desert!
Ron, yes MI6 was telling me about those peaks. He knows the country, I don't.
Minor climb summit.
MI6 and my lovely bride!
Layton the mighty.
The company commander, looking good as usual.
Zuni the rez mutt doesn't stray far from that girl!!
The eye of the needle.
Where's Heidi?
The burning bush revealed no secrets, except how hard it is to see Grandfather's last day alive....

A much underrated hiking and peak bagging area.
Don't be so sure that's Granddad's last day alive. He might well have survived many of those in his hundreds of years.
A great area for just scrambling around to admire the Juniper Ancients.
Terrific back country skiing of all difficulties (shhhh......don't tell anyone)

Sorry HighT, no more lightning survival for Grandfather. The FS guys were waiting for it to fall. It was completely burned out from the other side. We watched it get more and more hollow. Right after we walked off, we heard them working on it with saws after it fell and they put it out.
J, MI6 would take Lepton out with both hands behind his back in his sleep. Careful he doesn't have to come after you.....

Nice country.
Thanks for the pix to enjoy.
I agree that that tree has probably been through quite a few fires and will live to see more. That would be my guess.

There's more to that tree than what was showing above the ground. It was there for hundreds of years before chain saws were invented, it may be around long after they're gone. Who knows?
Shame about it not telling you the secret of the universe though.

Thanks for the welcome DMT. Yes, lightning strike, maybe less than half mile from our camp. Love the neighborhood! A tiny drop of awesomeness almost leaked out of the corner of my eye....
Ghost,
Well it will have to come from the roots if there are more days ahead for grandfather. The rest of him finally fell over. WAAAAA!!!!
Those hot spots you see, like at the big branch on the left, are actually inside the tree, not surface burns. That's how burned out he was before he fell.
Elf forest on the second hike!
