My son and I did the 49.6 mile Smedberg Lake loop over five days in August. A fun trip worth doing.

Thanks. Awfully pretty photos and once again that sense of joy being with one's own out in the wilds.

Weird - ten minutes ago I told my daughter that we'd pass by Smedberg Lake on our next PCT trip. She thought it was a funny name. And then, there you are with photos and all. Thanks for the preview!

just a year or two ago I was in that region. Saw the back of the sawtooths. Until then, I didn't realize how vast that area is, but so easily accessible.

Quasi, what is your opinion of the Double Rainbow? I have thru-hiked the PCT with a Squall II and had to retire it. I have in my possession the Double RB as a replacement but haven't tried it yet.
The good, bad and ugly...let us know please!

My son and I have spent 12 nights over three Sierra backpacking trips in the Double Rainbow. Last year we did the South Lake to North Lake loop and spent two hours minimum everyday waiting out intense thunderstorms (5 days total). It worked almost perfectly.
Overall i like this tent considering it weighs in less than three pounds It is a little narrow for large folks like me (6-4) and my son (6-1). It is vented all along the bottom but condensation builds up in the roof. Entry from both sides is nice. Not self standing but you can use trekking poles. Actually it is very durable considering how light the fabric. The stakes are hollow tube so be careful not to beat them in with a rock. I have broken one stake by driving it too hard between some rocks. The tie downs are a little weak but I have had no problems.
Warning - it does not come factory seam sealed unless you pay an extra $25 and ask them to do it. A tiny drip developed after a 3 hour thunderstorm. Very waterproof if you consider I did not know it was not seamed sealed until I complained to the company. Best to read the directions carefully.
I will endure some discomfort to carry less weight. Overall I am happy with the DR. I recommended the DR to a friend. He hates the narrow footprint and bought another tent.
