Took off with daughter #2 on a romp up the spine of Kings Canyon last week. 62 miles, five nights, five 12,000' passes. Yeah, my knees hurt. Daughter had a touch of altitude sickness, so the first 24 hours were a little slow, then we charged.

Good time to be packing a Nikon - four days with clouds; beautiful, puffy, magestic, heroic clouds! Can't beat that. Bugs were still real bad everywhere, got hailed on both sides of Mather Pass, but morning broke clear at Palisades Lake (see above picture).

Curiously, not many people on the JMT. Two women northbound on the run, trying to set a (supported) Muir Trail speed record, raced by us while we were having coffee - they'd missed their first resupply two days before and had been out since with no food or gear. They gave up at LeConte Canyon, and hiked out over Bishop Pass.

Gorgeous stuff out there last week - more at: http://stevedunleavy.smugmug.com/Landscapes/Sequoia-National-Park-Mt/14362691_ZkXVmS#1458866885_GgFPRgs-A-LB

Amazing photos. I could swear you're shooting Kodachrome. Dusy looks like good bouldering (or at least talus running) grounds. We try to replicate the mountains in a climbing gym or home wall, but never will measure up to the real thing. Props for getting out there that far to worship at the alter of such unclimbed (will never be climbed) stuff.

good photos

rig?

Nikon D90 / Nikon 10-24mm / circular polarizer filter is the basic rig. Sometimes a ND grad filter also. Started carrying a 18-105 this year for more reach when the wide angle won't work. Tripod stayed in the car at the trailhead - to heavy for a trip like this, but maybe I'm a wuss...

The middle pic above of Rae Lakes was my daughter using a Canon G12, a pretty good point and shoot I usually use for diving.

Here's one more, Arrowhead Lake, looking north towards South Baxter Creek drainage. This picture really knocks me out, can't tell you why, I'm not a trained photographer, I just like the way it came out.
