Righteous pictures, Hella effort, you DO know how to stage an outstanding sufferfest. I am impressed. Thanks for sharing.
P.S. I could not help but admire, once again, just how outstandingly beautiful is the east flank of the Sierras. What a beautiful country we get to share, to be sure.

Ha ha, I tried to write "glutton for punishment" and my iPhone corrected it to "project bushmeat". Maybe my smartphone is smarter than me. Gnarly effort dudes.

23.5K for the day, 116.5 miles, 25 hours and 40 minutes
...bunch of that in sub-freezing temps and battling headwinds. Just, damn.
10/10 photographer, really good stuff.

Thanks guys. Glad you enjoyed some of our adventure! The excellent photographs are all taken by Peter Clark, local family practice MD and big time runner/skier/climber enduro nut himself!
Cheers!!

Ryan, just curious. You said switched to a bike with lower gearing for the climb up to Schulman Grove. Did you have a triple? What kind of gearing on the cassette?
Thanks

Hi @10BforMe
In regards to gearing I prefer to run a 1:1 gearing ratio option on endurance climbing days. This was something originally suggested back when the Everest Challenge was a big thing in Bishop.
I generally run some variation of 34:34 still.
Until recently that has always meant a mountain bike derailer on the rear and a compact crankset up front, or as you suggested - a triple - though those are becoming increasingly rare lately.
Recently Shimano has released a 34 tooth ultegra cassette/derailer 11 speed option, which I'm really excited to switch over to in the future on my hill climbing bikes. The mountain bike derailer/cassette works, but isn't nearly as smooth as a true road 105/ultegra setup or as durable feeling.

I just did the MR route in the dark and had the same "lightening flashes" you were talking about, never experienced that before. It was quite an adventure in tennis shoes, glad I had a strong headlamp too ! Left the car at 3pm to scatter some ashes on top, no way I was coming back down that route. Even the ledges below Iceberg were frozen. My water in my pack was frozen at 8pm on top. Stayed an hour on top all alone, just me and my friend in a bottle. Made it back the the car at 2am and home by 6am.
No way was I going to ride a bike anywhere....you guys are badass !!!
