Maple Canyon Smash and Grab
Thursday May 14, 2015 6:36am
So my good buddy Reed is on an epic road trip. He's visiting 25 crags in 25 days for his 25th birthday. Starting from South Dakota he's made or making a big loops through Colorado, NM, Utah, Idaho, and Montana. Then of course heading back home to the Black Hills. I met up with him for a few Bday pitches at one of our local sport crags. Maple Canyon.

Reedster was all pooped from driving, and climbing for 10 or so days so we decided to start the day off with a fun and easy 10c multipitch climb called Eagle's Nest to the bitchin summit. It's hard to drive into the canyon, and not see the summit block of the "Eagle's Nest". Pretty sweet we got to summit something!

Riding high off the summit stoke we cruised on into the left fork to fool around on some steep sports climbings.

Once you fire one proj you gotta start another right? I walked the cliff and picked the route with the biggest freaking holds and man could could ask for. Luckily for me the crux sports the tiniest slopey POS's.

Only a 25-year old would think that a trip like that is a good idea! Thanks for the pictures of Maple, never been. Looks….interesting.

Yea Rhodo I agree. He's pretty crazy for dreaming up that trip. I'm only 5 years older than Reed, and definitely still come up with some hair brained trip ideas.

HolEY scheisse! I'm not sure I can wrap my brain around that stuff you climbed. Looks like it could have been reasonaby cemented. The stoke is apparent though and nice pics!

Crazy idea, but it pretty much guaranties 25 climbing areas he'll return to, and there is a value to that!

And Maple kicks ass!
