Matterhorn Peak

Climbed Matterhorn Peak this weekend with great weather and conditions aside from some soft snow. We hiked in on dry trail and then later snow that lead to the small glacier and the couloir leading to the start of the route. We wandered a bit on the route and had a late start forcing us to descent in the dark, but overall a great climb. The sawtooth range offers a short approach, beautiful scenery, and good climbing. We saw lots of deer and wildlife, and only two other people the whole day, not bad for a weekend.

Does anyone know if there are rap anchors off the summit somewhere, saw one set but was not sure if it lead off or if there were more below it?

There's no need in rappel anchor there. South ridge provides a 2'nd class walk-off to 2'nd class SE or SW slopes. From SE slope one can easily descent to Horse Creek drainage thru an easy and obvious pass. Another option is 3rd class downscrambling to East Couloir.

Where and how do you park? We were there last Sunday and didn't succeed trying to find a parking lot at Mono Village at about 3am. Also there was nobody to pay Village resort entry fee to. The only parking we've found there is equipped with sings "No overnight parking".

We parked at mono village, i tried to find the walk off on the back side but it seemed very steep
