Overcoming Depression--5.1 X

I'm sick of TRs all decked out with photographs.

I made a statement last week in the Ditch with a silent partner (who shall remain fameless).

We climbed in wet clothes. We GOT SOAKED CROSSING THE DANG CREEK!

Nothing went write.

It's an "instant classic."

I'm hoping Big Mike can meet me and we can go do the second ascent this fall.

Maybe we'll get some pics then.

Meanwhile, suffer.

truly an amazing adventure. never before has the taco seen or heard of such a tale. keep getting after it and don't stop till you drop or run out of liquid courage.

Last week these two guys did Overhanging Tower in the Cirque in between major waves of mist and rain. That thing is 1000ft tall and sharp as a pencil on top but goes at a whopping 5.2(probably old school 4th class). Mouse you need to put it on your list.

The only shots I have.

O.D. is to be found in the middle of the pic.

It's a little hard to tell, but the death lieback starts in the distance there somewhere.

This was taken on the approach, which began in the early seventies as you can infer from the vehicle.

Some might call into question the Grade, but there are three pitches, so I feel it qualifies as a Grade II. This is not negotiable.

How can you down-rate a 5.1? That's just silly.

so this thing needs a reliable party to do the second/ third ascent as justin is known for sand bagging and such. who would have imagined such a fine line awaited you to pluck and post about such a grand adventure

Yes, this is truly an exceptional TR, humble and with an admirable economy among words. In the OP, there's even words out that there's photo documentation from the struggles. If the summiting can be documented, I'll support the candidacy...

For Grossman: All natural pro. No cams. No pitons. No aliens. Just me and one friend. And a rack of stoppers, which were useless, BELIEVE IT OR NOT!

One-inch tubular slings and biners ought to be plenty...unless you'd care to try to free solo it. Wait till it's dry, at least. It's a long fall into some burly oaks and boulders. It's in a remote spot, like I said. No cell reception, either. U could be S.O.L. if U fell.

My partner/porter and I gave hip belays.

For music we had the sough of the wind, the pitter-patter of dripping clothes, and in my old Walkman I had a cassette of U2's Rattle and Hum. But the battery died in the middle of "Freedom For My People."

We found no pin scars.

Not a trace of Ed "Obscurity Knocks" Hartouni.

Just a lot of weird liebacking that ran on for yards at a time.

It was so mellow. But It Don't Need No Stinkin' Topo.

It would ruin the ambience of nature like a Boobs Thread once rocked the Taco.

PEEPS would invade. TOURONS might follow.
