bravecowboy,

Not related to any Lambs. I used to take a Mr. Lamb fishing (avocado farmer from CA) yearly in Saratoga WY. Can't recall his first name.

Just wanted to add... Honduras has many problems, but if you stick to the country side and avoid slumming in San Pedro Sula, it is a beautiful country, full of folks who are sick of all the bad press given to gangs killing other gangs.

HN may have the highest murder rate per capita but it is the bad guys killing other bad guys.

While trying to meet a possible amigo at the SAP bus terminal, three locals surrounded me for 4 hours. They hollered and sent military and police and locals to try and find my contact. They never asked for a penny but wanted to make the only gringo they had seen in awhile feel safe and report to the states that Honduras is happy to have Americans.

As a friend told the ex president of Honduras, "when have you seen a planeload of Venezuelans coming to your country to help your people?" (referring to all the USA mission groups that build schools and orphanages in HN)

Any chance those were sacrificial tables? Perhaps someone with informed knowledge could shed some light for me as to what they would have been used for.

Those are actually metates from what I have read.

I think many are metates, but believe some of the larger pieces must have had more significance. A few had ornate carvings on the sides and others had a head (like a jaguar?) and tail on the end.

Always three legs. Didn't matter if it was four inches long or 5 feet.

Most of the "table"/metate sites would contain over one hundreds pieces all piled up together. What does that mean? A grave of an important guy or maybe the sculptor himself? Most were finished works but some pieces were still not finished.

Heres a pretty good read on them, explains the carved animalistic ones as well. Cool stuff. Love the TR.

Thanks Mike! Great link with good info.

I don't claim to know anything about them but find them fascinating and would love to learn more!

I failed to mention the reason for this trip. I study Lampyridae (fireflies/lightning bugs). I have been collecting in Honduras for over 10 years, good grief the taxonomy is a mess! Or maybe they are all undescribed? This project has turned into a monster!
