Trip Report
Punters at the city CLIMBING PHOTO TR!
Wednesday May 18, 2011 10:46pm
I have lived in Ideeho for almost 3 years now, the best stone is at the City/ Castle rocks and Elephants perch, rest of the rock is largely unspiring to me, I haven't hit the Selkirk crest/ chimney rock yet admittedly.

I have a challenging job and two young chillins, so I get out way to little, but my wife is great and supports me tons.

We made it to the City of Rocks last Friday saturday, me and my Budy Matt L
First up was Wheat thin after a long winter with no trad clmbing it felt harder then the grade!

Looking down wheat thin!

Next up was Roller Coaster and My private Idaho on the back of bath rock! Picture of another party from sun valley!

While I was leading roller coaster Matt told me a great joke:
Last weekend I was at the bar and asked the bartender for a "bin Laden"
The bartender replied I give up what is a bin laden?

Matt replies, it's a boiler maker; with a colt 45 and a shot that goes strait the the head.

I almost laughed my self to death and fell off the route.

coffee and cornflakes was next a STOUT 5.10a

Next we tried to find a campsite had to 4-wheel through a serious snow drift and make it up to site 61 which is in the middle of no where!

The out post hit the spot for dinner!

Next up day 2!

Great place, and as I suspected: still some snow up there. I'm planning a trip to the City in mid to late June.

Thanks Guys!
Broken, unfortunately I'm working or out of town for the entire month of June....:(
Broken- all of the rock is dry, so no worries 'bout the snow!

AWESOME AWESOME AWESOME!

Thanks Ezra. More please?? If I come up there, will you show me around? All those years in OR and I never made it over there. My sister took a ton of cool photos there last fall. Made my mouth water...

Love the large format pix!! Advantage of photobucket over the supertopo photo upload eh? I've done it that way myself a few times. I Like big pictures!!

ANY TR IS BETTER THAN A POLI-THREAD!!!

Survival, Of course I'll show you around! that is if I'm not working a weekend and my wife will let me go....:)

David,- Rye crisp is one of the best 5.8's but I like skyline better on morning glory spire also at the city. Fred Rasmussen is great, but too short!

sun set at the campsite 61 the first day, make sure you have campsite reservatoins a couple weeks ahead!

Next morning views!

A really cool 5.7 splitter hand crack on the east side of the comp wall in castle rock state park!

Matt L on Mantle dynamics, a fantastic, if over bolted 5.10a.

Looking down the sport route on the west side of brack-seeks pillar!

Note matt's freshly shaven mustasche, he shaved it becasue on of our climbing partners told him he either looked: gay, hungarian, or like a porn*, pretty funny!

Fantastic TR... Last time I was out there... (Ten years ago?) The whole place was black from a recent fire. It was still awesome. Now it looks even better!

Ezra: Great report! I nearly missed it, since it fell off the front page of ST so quickly.

Less snow than I thought.

Thanks!

Fritz-

There's been a lot of new snow all through the Northen Rockies this past week. How can we find out the camping conditions? It's looking questionable for anything early June for me, now.

These are the first pics I've seen of the area, thanks for sharing! My mom and bro live near Boise, I'll keep this on my radar for a dual-purpose future visit (although it's still 3-4 hours from Boise?).

Brokedown: Looks like the stage is set for another cold wet June.

Climbing weather.com predicts wet at COR most-parts of this week.

http://www.climbingweather.com/Idaho/City-of-Rocks

Nutjob: About 3 1/2 hrs. from Boise to COR, on mostly uncrowded (by CA. standards) Interstate. If you are in the area, give me a whistle. We live 90 miles east of Boise.
