Super Bowl Day Pinnacles Trip Report

I went to Pinnacles with a couple of friends from work, Mike and Gery and a friend of Gery's named Dennis. We were hoping for some decent weather after the latest storm. The weather ended up cloudy all day, chilly, some rain/mist and a lot of wet ground. I'm posting a few climbing shots and some pictures of Pinnacles in its winter glory. It was beautiful there with all the rain.
Since it was so cold and overcast, I warmed up leading Rat Race (5.7) and most everyone took turns leading Thrill Hammer (5.8). We top-roped Rat Face (5.10D, and was appropriately height dependent as the book described). We took turns leading Wee Little One (5.8) and then moved on to Discovery Wall. I took Mike up his first multi-pitch climb on Ordeal (5.8). The biggest ordeal was the CF I made out of the hanging belay. Gery and Dennis did Stupendous Man (10a) and The Wet Kiss (5.9). The Big Pucker was too wet to climb. Next, we moved on to the Monolith. I led the Direct Route (5.7R) and Gery led Post Orgasmic Depression (5.10d) and then we took turns top-roping some stuff. There can't be too many days when you can climb a lot of the classics at Pinnacles and never have to wait in line. The rock was starting to get wet and we were getting colder so finally, we hiked up to the reservoir. The water level is 15' higher than last November and the water was running over the spillway. It was a great day. Hope you like the pics.

lucky to not have folks around.
i usually stick to working on new stuff around the rainy days or aid, so as not to bend the free climbers out of shape if I were to snap a hold. meh, go for it I say.

You "stole" a day of climbing, that's for sure. I haven't seen the reservoir that full in years either.
We have a new doctor moving to this community to take a job with our ER medical group. One of the doctors already in the ER group is a good friend of mine. He was in on the interview with the new hire. When he found out that the new doc was a climber he had to ask if she knew me (ours is a small community up here). Oh, she knew me all right. She apparently hadn't forgotten climbing at Pinnacles with her husband on a Super Bowl Sunday. They'd run into me and my partner, and in the course of a pleasant conversation, I'd allowed how the two of them must be communists since they were out in the gorgeous weather, climbing instead of watching the game.
It was a joke, I was just having fun. Gotta remember to engage the brain more quickly after I open the mouth.

Never been there but this place always reminded me of the Needles(SD) by the pictures and the way people talk about it. Old school.
