Hey ya,

Kind-of a new format for this TR....

Try out this link and let me know if it works, are sized right, pic quality etc. Trying some new software out....

So far the only guy who has had trouble with this (besides dial up guys!) is JayBro! (but he still kicks assss™)

Give it a minute to load up if it looks like nothing is happening....

http://www.fishproducts.com/movies/TR_hueco_10_07/

Any problems, let me know.

Thanks!
Russ

What? No day trip to Juarez? I'd expect a stuffed armadillo or 2.

How'd that butt water thing work out?

Russ,
Cool set-up. Sometimes the words scrolled through too fast- I'm a little slow at reading and didn't catch everything. It'd be cool to be able to click through the slides or at least have another 3 seconds on the writing.

And, Hueco is a bouldering spot dude.

Looks like some really fun stuff. I've never been there, what are the restrictions that you speak of?

James et al: read the intro in the OP!

It takes a while to load.

You can "mouse over" on the bottom of the main pics to run it like a slide show. Buttons will appear.

You can "mouse over" the little white "i" in the upper right corner for captions.

side note: already did all the boulder problems I can do.... 20+ ago. Your favorites are my old FA's (doubtful, but maybe)

Just loaded it with FireFox on a G4..... seems the Fox likes to load the whole thing before it will run. Safari will do a quickstart on the QT and get you going in about 25 seconds. Firefox, I would guess depends on your download speed... cable modem it was like 3 minutes? Dialup, more time than you have left.....

Ibook G4 1.33 ghz OS 10.4 Safari DSL but the slowest one.

Great trip report !!! Kudos for doing this.

It took about 3 minutes to start up on quicktime. The i thing that you talk about for the captions never showed. No captions, just the yellow script between sets of pics.

The lower center control buttons seem to take awhile to start working, but once they did it was great.

It looked like a great trip and like you had a lot of fun. I love those types of road trips.

Maybe your screen or window is just not big enough? Pics are like 800 wide.... I'm on a 22" monitor so it is hard to relate to the little people.

Here is a screen shot of the mouseovers:

The actual routes there at Hueco on the North Mountain are pretty dang nice. Most have really long pitches so don't forget that 84m rope! Anyways...the actual climbing is recommended highly if you happen to be passing by. We'll Skamper back over there for more one of these days. Gotta knock off that Indecent Exposure dealie next time. I'd had all the multi-pitch in-a-group-of-three my patience could handle that day.

Coolest big-lose-a-VW-in-em hueco routes we did:

Sweet lil' TR!

I used the browser option on my PC (Explorer).
It started playing pretty quick (right away), maybe 5-10 minutes to fully load (per the bar thingy at the bottom) with a 100 Mbps connection.

I have a Dell 17" screen (prolly' smaller you know, cuz they lie).
Width is great, if I set to full screen through the tools menu, height is spot on as well.

The "i" caption option works.
The nav buttons at bottom work.
I'm sayin' this thing flys great as is.

Cheers,
The Hummer (aka etc., ad infinitum)

Moosie, you're not alone.

I tried to view full screen using both Quicktime & Explorer and NO GO.

17" screen and I can't view the top corner. I suppose I've got too much crap on my toolbar. Unfortunately, I'm unable to right click and open in another window as you only get Quicktime options.

There are photos that are completely cropped at the top and well, I never get the "i"

Lucky for me, I know what the photos are from.

p.s. Hey Mussy - It's SKAMPER with a "k" and how come no tunes playing during the show?

Hey Sooze,
My toolbar is pretty phat too,
But if you use the Tools icon on the far right, with the little gear icon (Explorer) not the general one up top & left, you can go to full screen (no menu bar at all showing).

I just read some stuff about the restrictions - did you have to reserve your days in advance? How are the crowds these days compared to the late 90's?

The roped routes are pretty cool. Optical Promise, I recall, is pretty awesome.

The show worked fine. The mouseover thing is hidden - maybe there's another option you can generate where that stuff is showing automatically? I wanted to be able to run things at my own speed, which is pretty fast when I'm wasting time at work.

Geek stuff: Monitor size is irrelevant - it's what resolution you're driving it with. I run 1600x1200 on the desktop, for example. One can see the effect of any other resolution your card and monitor will handle simply by changing your settings.

Not all Java virtual machines are created equally, so any java website may appear different on different machines, or may not appear at all. However, I believe Quicktime assures a certain level when it's installed...

Crowds? What crowds? in 4 days we never saw another person on a cord other than our little ghey group of 5. Besides that, maybe a dozen pad-people standing around here and there.

We did have to make reservations for Day Use at $4.00 per person per day. Typically you are suppose to call the reservation center (see link) to do so. Although, when making Skamping™ reservations they can take care of the Day Use at the same time.

http://www.tpwd.state.tx.us/spdest/findadest/parks/hueco_tanks/fee.phtml

We opted to Skamp in the park just because.... no real reason other than we're already there, they have showers, water and power to watch our DVD's.

The rule on how many days is vague but this is basically it. Registration in 1 name cannot exceed more than 3 days in 14.

Translation: Russ & I climbed for 4 consecutive days no problem using both names. Our little party of 5 could have climbed for 2 weeks straight no issue.

It was pretty good times, plenty of rules but it's better than NO ACCESS so I'm not complaining.

WOW!! Great trip report Russ.

That was a fabulous silhouette shot of Susan Steeelmonkey.

It is cool to see that you guys went out there to use ropes, I thought only the pebble climbers climbed out there anymore.

Did any of you do that Flake Roof? I remember that as a good one. I am not sure if you recall Russ I was out there the same time you were in the 80's with Dave Bengston, we spent a month or so there. $2.00 onion enchiladas at petes. Yum!

Radical: hahaha! nice one. Keep trying

MrE: it's an 84 meter.... that extra 2m is everything

T2:no Flake Roof this time.... you and the Tweeze? hmm... maybe. Petes is long gone now. Looks like a scrap yard.

My new Hueco Questions: I wonder if you can get one of those ghey "guides" to take you out, and instead of bouldering, have them wait at the base while we hangdog the piss out of Secret Sharer or something??? Seems fair..... since the only access to the closed areas (for bouldering) is with a guide.

Yes, that Indecent Exposure is a nice route. One of the few routes that Russ absolutely wanted to get on. Mussy, please share your little story about trying to do IE decades before.

The route is pretty neat and the first pitch although not that technical is pretty run out with maybe 80 feet between the 1st and 2nd bolts. I was glad I brought two long runners along with me instead of just quick draws as there were bomber hueco's to be slung.

Problem with the run outs is you can't see where the line goes. I was pretty confused and didn't want to get into any trouble I wouldn't be able to reverse. Russ, yells up to me to "keep going" when I finally saw the bolt - up and over maybe 35-40' from where I was at.

Ah well, that's the fun stuff right?

Hey Russ,
TR worked fine for me. Thanks for posting it. Looks like a really cool place.
My only comment has to do with the way I usually read TRs on ST. First I read through carefully. Then I scroll up and down the TR re-reading and looking at pictures on the fly. You can't do that with this slide show format.
All trip reports are good though. See ya,

ok.... I know it is a lot to ask.... but for those of you that watched the 1st slideshow.....

try this one: http://fishproducts.com/movies/TR_hueco_10_07/

Seems the last one besides being giant (42mb) was not working on some machines and some guys were missing features, like the captions and navigation buttons.

This new one is Flash driven (I know, I usually hate flash too) but is smaller (11mb?) and should have pause, forward and backward buttons on the screen... move your mouse around to see the buttons.

same questions if you have problems, what machine, what OS, what processor, and what sort of connection to the internet do you have. I swear this is the last Hueco one I'll make you watch.....

Got some good stuff in the works if I can just find a universal format that works and is pretty cool.

I'll start a new thread for this, so if you can, post your comments on this new show there. Gratsi!
