Trip Report
The Old Man and The Mountain
Wednesday June 11, 2014 2:32pm
My best buddy just turned 70 in dog years but just like Donini he is still going strong.

His only problem is that he has started having seizures about once a month. I use to bring him to work with me but I'm worried he might hurt himself while I'm busy so he stays home a lot now.

Now any free time I have I dedicate it to him. He loves the moutains and digs the snow.

We attempted a peak the other day but got turned back due to too much snow.

We went for a swim instead.

The next day we headed up for a different summit.

Haystack Rock just over 11,000ft elevation.

It's a bunch of loose talus but Slack has four wheel drive and tends not to knock rocks down on me.

It took us about an hour and a half to summit.

On our way down I blew out a flop about a mile or so from the car.

We got back to the car just as the sun was setting.

I love this dude. He'll always be my little buddy. May we have many more summits in the future.

Sorry about the seizures they are tough to watch. A stray border collie showed up on my doorstep one day that people had dumped. I couldn't figure out why until she started having seizures from Addison's disease.

I was able to manage it for about a year but then I had to have her put down. this on top of having to put down my own dog the year before. nothing has ever hurt that bad except maybe my best friend getting murdered.

I swore I would never do it again but here I am attached to my brothers old dog because I take care of him all the time.

yes there is definitely something about dogs that will bring the softness out of just about anybody

Larry, Slack may be the softest, best looking heeler in the world, after mine of course! All dogs should be so fortunate to own such dedicated and responsive humans. Three cheers for Slack and his human!

Funny le Bruce I've always thought my dog was a much better person than myself. This TR made me think of my dog who will also be 9 this year, perfect The Larry. Thanks.

Very cool Larry!!

I once blew a flop like that coming off the Chief. It was one with the plastic circle holding the strap through a hole in the sole. I managed to cobble it back together with some drink box plasic straws i just happened to have in my bag. I worked.... Kinda... I only buy flops with the strap sewn to the sole now!

Slack is looking good! You're a good human.. I love dogs, but i'm too selfish with my time and don't wanna be a sh!tty human...
