Trip Report
Too hot to climb so I rode my bike this summer
Monday September 20, 2010 7:34pm
Feeling a bit old, useless and unable to deal with the summer heat of Joshua tree, I took a month off from work and flew my bicycle to Portland and rode her home. Well, not all the way home, to Topanga canyon where I caught a car ride to the desert.

I didn't climb any mountains or rocks, but my combined altitude gain over the 1400 hundred miles was just short of 40,000 feet. I know this is not a climbing trip, but it was sort of.

Anyway, here's the youtube link to a slide show I made for my family. PS. a huge shout out to Todd Gordon for teasing me day after day, telling me to ditch the tent, food, stove, stay in hotels and drink beer. Thank goodness I did not listen to him.

What an awesome trip. Every time I see a report like this it makes me want to kick myself for not doing something similar when I had all that free time that I really did think I had but did. Great report.

That is a great way to spend a little time. Thanks for putting the show together, makes me sad that my daily commute is only 3 miles as I long for the open road yet on this island the scenery rests itself every 120 miles.

Again thanks and Aloha!

Hey TS,
Great trip report! Solo biking is a great way to travel. Something about the lone rider coming into town makes everyone curious - "where're you from, where're ya goin, how long's it gonna take you?"
So how long did it take you?
Thanks for the nice intelude.
