We made a recent trip to the Big Horn Mountains in north central Wyoming. Our original plan was foiled - but our alternate worked out just fine. This peak is at 44o 23' 41" N, 107o 12' 28" W, or 44.394818 N and 107.208023 W. The approach is 12 miles 2500' one way. The outing was 2 miles one way 2100'. The total is 28 miles RT and 6000'. The east ridge is class 4 - mostly class 3. Pretty good boulders but some Colorado Scree.

In 1970 I worked on a ranch just east between Buffalo and Sheridan. There was an oldtimer there that remembered the Johnson County War as a kid.

Last back in '95.

The Bighorns were exceedingly popular in the inter-war period, especially with the Chicago climbers, before equipment and technical advancements made the Tetons more popular.
