Trip Report
Weekend in Boulder, CO - Skiing Eldora, scrambling Settlers Park
Sunday February 15, 2015 11:12pm
First of all, a big shout out to the Supertopo crew that gave us suggestions for where to go, where to eat! We had Valentine's dinner at Pizzeria Locale; my wife was born and raised in Italy, and she said it was like good pizza in Italy (normally she is somewhat critical of pizza in America). Tonight we ate at Kathmandu Restaurant in Nederland. I said screw-it to the gluten free stuff for this dinner, and ate tons of Naan with Chicken Tikka Masala, and Aloo Paratha (which I enjoy most eating with plain yogurt, which they were able to supply).

For some reason, whenever my brain tells my mouth to open wide, my eyebrows think the message is for them too:

Day 1 at Eldora, above Boulder, CO:

On the way back down the canyon into town, I spied an alluring pinnacle in the gaps between trees. A stop was in order to investigate. Damn good thing I stopped! Wonderful watching the sunset unfold from a great vantage point, and satisfied my climbing jones for a bit:

I almost had a "this is stupid" moment scrambling up this ridge in my loose office shoes (didn't have space for hiking boots in the luggage after sticking in ski boots for wifey and me), but it was pretty reasonable:

Day 2, different weather! I'm pretty out of shape, and my legs were hurtin' from the first run of the day! That got in the way of my maximal enjoyment of the day, but still it was pretty awesome.

Pretty hard-core drive back from Nederland to Boulder, with stock rental car and no snow-plow in site after the rush of Eldora skiers left an hour or two earlier:

where can i get one of those?
i need a hook-up.

my days they try to wake up and thrive
and i shove a load of shute the f*#ke up down it's gob
and it recedes into hibernation
so i can get on with my business
of chasing my tail round and round,
humping the leg of prosperity.

Very nice!

I didn't know you were around these parts; glad you had fun. I've yet to ski downhill in CO, even though I'm 20 minutes from Eldora. Maybe after this huge Spring dump we're getting today.

I'm glad you found the right place to have a good time. Given the fresh snow, Loveland at 10,000 feet would have been really cold and no Kathmandu restaurant. Good choice. Feel free to vacation in Colorado any time. Summer's are really nice here too.

It's the first place that wifey and I agree on a long-term vision for where to park our corpuses in the golden years. I was keen on Bishop, but she wants to stay close to a place where she can continue doing cancer research in a world-class facility. That ain't Bishop, but a decade down the road when timing is better for us and if the stars properly align, it might be Boulder?

Glad you folks had a good time.
This is pretty much the daily routine for living in Nederland in winter.
Go skiing, eat at Kat's, go climbing in Boulder, repeat.
