Well, as many of you know, I broke my ankle on my first day of summer. It was the first day of my season of climbing in yosemite that I had been waiting for for 180 school days of hell! So as you can imagen on day 1 I was SOOOO stoked for climbing, and it was the NA wall. I fell 30 feet up and broke my ankle :( season over!...
... until now!
I got my cast off on the 21st of july. And have just started being able to hike pretty well. So to the mountains I go in search of hiking and VERY easy rock climbing in the high country.
We had mount emerson in mind but were shut down due to rain. It was still a very fun hike and a good adventure! We checked out the base and are coming back soon as it looks like much fun!
the trail to emerson
base of a wet, rainy mount emerson.
Then on day 2 we hiked out to north dome! A hike we have done before and liked. we stopped at indian rock for the first time and that was very radical! And proceeded on to the dome.. we herd 2 HUGE bomb type sounds that echoed in the park. My guess was they are blasting rock to build a road or something.
So, on our next day, we had dreams of north ridge of mount coness, but again, due to weather, did a hike instead! So we headed up to mount hoffman! A very rad peak that we are sure to return to in the future! The thumb looks SOO fun!
Trekking poles are my new best friends! My ankle needs em!
These next 2 photos are for you high sierra lovers. I see about 100 AWESOME corners and aretes that are of FA territory. So many fun hard and easy climbs I was scoping. Any info on them if people have climbed it woud be cool as I want to get up there when my ankle heals and do some new routin!
The next day was the day we left. we did a presidential boulder session in the morning. saw a wingsuiter fly off somewhere near taft point. then aid climbed tree route to test out my ankle with aid climbing. Then jumped in the merced and headed home!
So thats it, 3 big fun hikes, 1 pitch of easy aid, 3 wet rainy bivys, 1 jump in a river, 1 boulder, 2 hours of starring and dreaming at el cap, and tons of other fun!
I have until august 25 to do something awesome on the captain until I have to go back to the mind control facility. So perhaps 1 el cap climb if I am lucky, but 1 thing is for shore, this fall season will be epic! many more adventures to come!

WM, I know what you mean..trekking poles are the bomb for bad knees and ankles.
Good to see you getting out.....
My memory could be wrong, but i'm pretty sure..Falkenstein and Sean White's coach (Bud Keene) put up several routes on Hoffman...or was it Grant & Bud...many moons ago...
and possibly.. Brian Shoor??...Brian runs May Lake High Sierra camp. He could definitely give you any route bata.

Welcome back.
Glad to see you starting out with some rebuilding. Smart.
And, although I laughed at the phrase "mind control facility," don't knock school so much - over the whole course of your whole lifetime an education is one of the most valuable things you can get (and once gotten no-one can ever take it away from you even if you don't use it).

Hey Whitey,
Glad to see that you're back at it again! Please be careful on that ankle! I want to enjoy more of your TR's with your infectious stoke for the big stone! I know that I tend to push hard right after recovering from an injury only to re-injure it or at least, stress it. Pace yourself young lad and enjoy the journey. ;)
Cheers!

Oh Mr. Whitemeat! You never cease to amaze me. As for poles...they aren't just for goofy knees and ankles. I know you're young but treat those joints kindly now and you'll get full return on your investment.

I think I am 6'5" !
As for the way my feet look in that picture, My ankle most likely felt better that way right then, I don't always do that :)
Thanks for the cool comments guys! Very great!
PS: I added 2 more pics of mount emerson!

If the cast is off and you can walk as far as you did, don't sweat the rigors of the Captain overmuch. You know how you feel when you are ready to climb, I'm sure. You're a big boy now. Shee! Big Mike's gonna have to move over.
As far as Hoffman and routes go,
["The route potential here is INSANE."]
are you trying to get Clint involved? You will if you keep that up. :0)

I love Whitemeat and we've only met once. But his stoke is contagious. We are Facebook "friendies" and he only once begged me for prescription drugs....salt of the earth that kid.
Whitey here's some shots to stoke your fire until you return to Edjumacation.

Hey Whitemeat,
I broke my ankle, at the beginning of a season, many years ago. In fact I lost 3 climbing seasons due to injuries to both ankles.
At 68, I'm still climbing. You have many years ahead of you to enjoy the mountains!

Good to hear you are on the rehab Whmeat . . . Alpine diversions are the best for rounding out the mountaineering skills.

This old guy is proud of your improved grammer, and your ability to work through a season-ending injury, and post a mellow Sierra trip report.
Keep posting doeeede!
