The commute is a bit long but the scenery's grand.I wondered where you'd gone when I woke up from my nap in the car.

Nice shoot, hooblie.

We learn from observing the master traveler, eh?

Delicious!

Would it spoil the vibe to ask: where that be?

Great photos, nice scenery, wonderful captions. Iz cool if you don't wanna say where it is, but could you allude to the volcanic center these effusive rocks came from??? Looks basaltic to me.

He says "western slopey" and to my eyes, it's reminiscent of the Table Mountain "basalt" in the Sonora Pass area.

There is some disagreement on this subject, but the rock is Latite.

Therein lies a climbing area called The Grotto, which is pretty cool, (though I'm not saying that's where this TR's content is located):

The cliffs are reminiscent of The Grotto. But they are inland a very long ways and nearly a mile higher, Tarbuster. This is juniper-pinyon forest and where does that happen? Not in California.

New Mexico! Heck, could even be outside of Paonia, Colorado. But N Danger probably would have said so, were it the latter ...

(Thanks for the nudge, mouse)

[edit]
And I've seen rock like this in Northern Arizona.
Looks like I'll be thrashing around in the brush for quite a while before I run into Hooblie.

the whole sweep of that day's traverse. the peak in the distance is bill williams mtn. pr/dice forks is an analog but this drains the other way.
i didn't knock on heisenberg's door so the hounds were not released.
any footprints i failed to prevent are the only ones there.
here's the prime cuts so far. the images will continue to trickle in for quite a while i hope,
as long as my sneaky skills abide. i did say weird right?
but western slope referred to local terrain.

one approach would be off BNSF right of way, through USNF
but that won't get you all the way there.

New Mexico, yep, that looks right. Thanks Tar, Mouse. There are certainly places that look very much like this up on the Taos Plateau, Rio Grande flood basalts, or welded latite from the Jemez caldera.

I'm naming this cliff Lizaard's Leap. It's virgin, but nowhere near the Virgin.
Another outcropping of the same igneous material.

There. I've used the most technical geologic term I know!
