Highway 88 near Kirkwood is one of the fastest growing bouldering areas around Tahoe. A few years after the initial discovery of the God’s Country area near Kirkwood Lake, Jesse Bonin kept exploring north and found a new motherlode of granite problems dubbed Erratica. A few miles west of Kirkwood Lake on CA88 and just east of Silver Lake is a small volcanic area known as The Freaks. Jesse Bonin, Noah Kaufman, Jay Sell, Frank Lucido and a number of other Tahoe/Nor Cal locals have established over 175 problems ranging from VB to V12 all around the Kirkwood area off Highway 88.
