Lake Tahoe Bouldering, California, USA
Approach time: 5 minutes
Season: April-November Number of problems: 28 Type of rock: Granite Overview
This place has got some history to it for sure. People have been bouldering here since the beginning (well, almost) and it’s easy to see why. Great problems on solid granite with a ten minute approach – there’s even a swimming hole so close you could hobble there in your climbing shoes and plunge your scorched feet in the water. I say this because the first time I bouldered here it was in full sun, in June, and I had to wear my girlfriends shoes because mine had blown out. Now, she’s got some big feet, but they’re not nearly big enough. The pain was spectacular, and I nearly whipped off the slabs in the corridor because properly weighting my feet was impossible. You’re not that dumb, though, so have a good time while you’re here. Just remember to come early or late if it’s summer. Notable Bouldering Problems
Bear Hug Arête (V4), The Moffatt Problem (V8). Photos
